Two liters of water a day: to drink or not to drink?

How much water should you drink during the day to stay healthy and blooming? Nutritionists are far from unanimous on this issue.

The popular theory in recent years that one should consume at least eight glasses of water a day is questioned by many nutritionists. Indeed, pouring two liters of water into yourself during the day in the absence of thirst is still a task! And is water needed in such volumes that the body perceives as surplus?

Water is important for the figure, but how much?

Apologists for watering from morning to evening believe that two liters a day helps to avoid intracellular dehydration. Like, without a sufficient amount of water, all vital processes (respiration, excretion, etc.) proceed very slowly in the cell. For example, Elena Malysheva, the author and presenter of the “Living Healthy” program, assures that you need to drink a glass of water every hour during the day.

But if we really need these notorious two liters, why does the body refuse to accept them? Another popular TV doctor, host of the program “On the Most Important”, Alexander Myasnikov, believes that you need to drink as soon as you feel thirsty. A recent study by Australian scientists supports this view. Scientists from the Green Continent set up an interesting experiment: a group of test citizens were given water to drink by force, while observing their brains with a tomograph. And they found out the following: if a person who is not thirsty forces himself to drink water, he spends three times more energy for each sip. Thus, the body tries to prevent the ingress of excess fluid.

If you don’t want to drink, don’t torture yourself!

So far, this is only an assumption, because only the reaction of the nervous system was studied, and not the whole organism. Research on this issue continues, and sooner or later, there will be complete clarity. In the meantime, the best option is to rely on the wisdom of the body. Many famous doctors call for this. They are sure: if you don’t feel like drinking, then you don’t need to.
