Three ways to make jeans worn at home
Frayed jeans never go out of style, and their prices are always quite high. How to make jeans worn at home? This requires a little patience and the most basic adaptations.
Methods for converting jeans
There are three ways to achieve the desired result:
- mechanical – involves the effect of abrasive agents on the fabric: rubbing with sandpaper, pumice stone, a piece of red brick;
- chemical – based on tissue discoloration with chlorine-containing products;
- thermal – is a long-term digestion of trousers with bleaching agents.
All methods require little special preparation. You will need:
- abrasive products of your choice (it is better to combine several);
- a plank, which in width should correspond to the width of the leg;
- any product containing chlorine is better gelatinous;
- old toothbrush;
- piece of chalk;
- water;
- large capacity for digestion;
- bleach that is suitable for boiling.
Put all these tools on the table so that they are at hand at all times.
How to make jeans worn: the workflow
Before starting work, decide where you want to lighten the color of the fabric. To do this, put on your trousers, mark with chalk the places of future scuffs. Please note that vertical spots visually narrow the leg, and horizontal ones widen.
- Take off your trousers, insert a plate inside the leg. Wet areas of future scuffs. Sand them with fine sandpaper. Try to act around the entire perimeter of the intended area. You can first treat the area with a pumice stone, and then touch up with sandpaper. Very effective scuffs can be achieved with a piece of red brick. This technique looks very natural.
- When choosing a chemical method, dilute the bleach with water in a 1: 1 ratio in a small container. Then apply the solution to the fabric with a toothbrush. Do not forget to tuck a plate under the fabric so as not to lighten other areas of the trousers. The processing time depends on the speed of the onset of the effect. The lightening reaction takes place before the eyes.
- If you want to get the “boiled-down” effect, you can tie the legs with strong knots, pull the fabric with threads, creating a cobweb. After that, the trousers are boiled in a container with a bleaching agent for several hours. This method is suitable for the global transformation of trousers.
Remember to wear gloves to protect your hands from injury or burns.
It takes a little imagination and effort to make jeans look frayed. If you do everything carefully and patiently, no one will be able to distinguish your work from purchased expensive trousers.
