Natural methods of treatment are often the best and certainly much safer forms of health care. One of such natural “pearls” that is worth knowing and using is Kamchatka berry, still little known in Poland. It belongs to the group of long-lived fruit bushes. Its taste resembles black forest berries, thanks to which it successfully combines two features: it is delicious and very healthy. It is definitely worth growing and including in your diet!
Kamchatka berry can also be grown in Poland. It is a shrub reaching a height of 2 meters, having elliptical and long leaves with very short petioles. The fruits of the bush are cylindrical and navy blue, with a wax coating on their surface and delicious flesh inside. According to scientists, its properties may contribute to the rapid increase in the popularity of Kamchatka berries, just as it was in the case of chokeberry, which is now added to many juices, desserts and jams.
Its wild variety grows in the Far East and Siberia. Its fruits contain numerous active substances that have a huge impact on health:
- Minerals: potassium, iodine, boron, iron, phosphorus, calcium.
- Beta-carotene, or provitamin A,
- sugars,
- organic acids,
- Vitamins B1, B2, P, C,
- Flavonoids.
According to nutritionists, they should be eaten mainly in raw form, because then they do not lose their valuable properties and active substances, so they are simply the healthiest. Nevertheless, they have another unique and positive feature – they also retain their health properties when frozen or dried! For the taste, it is worth making preserves from it, such as juices, preserves, jams and wines.
