The Ideal Medicine or How Sex Prolongs Life

I have already written about how you can increase your life expectancy, and this time I propose to talk about another idea: to have sex more often. Speaking from a purely scientific point of view, of course, because more and more studies are proving that orgasm is not only pleasant, but also extremely beneficial. It prolongs life, reduces the risk of various diseases, allows you to look (attention!) Ten years younger … Well, you yourself know the rest.

The idea of orgasm as a therapy dates back to the XNUMXnd century AD, when doctors decided to “use” it to treat a disease common only among women – hysteria. Coined by Hippocrates, the term “hysteria” literally means “rabies of the womb.”

I found a number of modern studies on this topic. For example, “Project Longevity”. As part of the project, a group of scientists for more than 20 years studied the details of the lives and deaths of 672 women and 856 men who took part in a study that began in 1921. Then the participants were about 10 years old, and the study lasted throughout their lives. In particular, it gave an interesting discovery: the life expectancy of women who more often reached orgasm during intercourse was much longer than that of their less satisfied peers!

It’s the same story with men: it turns out that sexual pleasure is a factor in reducing male mortality in all three main categories (heart disease, cancer and external causes such as stress, accidents, suicide). Therefore, many scientists put forward the idea that the more sex in your life, the longer you will live… The founder of this theory is Michael Royzen, a 62-year-old doctor who heads the Wellness Institute at the Cleveland Clinic.

“For men, the more the better,” he says. “The life expectancy of the average male, who has about 350 orgasms a year, is about four years higher than the American average of about a quarter of that number.”

How exactly does sex help men and women in terms of maintaining health and youth?

The fact is that orgasm is a powerful neurological and physiological surge. Hormones such as oxytocin and dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) are released into the bloodstream. These hormones relieve tension and help fall asleep, reduce the risk of heart attack in middle-aged men, and help get rid of depression.

Sex, even just once or twice a week, increases blood levels of immunoglobulin by 30%, a substance that fights infections and diseases. The level of risk of developing prostate cancer has been shown to be directly related to the frequency of ejaculation. Scientists claim that ejaculating at least four times a week can reduce the likelihood of developing cancer by 30%.

And another study found that those who have sex three times a week, on average, look 7–12 years younger than their actual age.

In general, much evidence suggests a causal relationship between sexual activity and health levels in both men and women. However, there are skeptics who argue that it is not entirely clear what is the cause and what is the effect in this case. Those. it may be that people are more likely to have sex and orgasm precisely because they are healthier, and not vice versa. Another well-known fact is that people in happy relationships tend to have better health. In general, in any case, we can only say with confidence that sexual satisfaction and a happy personal life significantly increase a person’s chances of living longer while maintaining good health.
