How to choose a laptop for a student
There are several factors to consider before buying a laptop for a student. We turned to Petr Sardanov, a young computer science teacher in primary school, which prompted us by what criteria it is necessary to choose such laptops.
Size
The first is portability, which is closely related to screen size. 13-inch laptops are popular with students and schoolchildren because they offer a good balance between screen size and portability. The 15″ model is often bulkier and heavier, and won’t fit in school backpacks along with textbooks.
Autonomy
Battery life is another key component of any good student laptop. If you’re planning to take your notebook to class or the library, don’t count on an outlet! Choose a laptop that lasts at least 9 hours of battery life, which should be enough to get you through an entire school day with enough study power.
Power
In terms of specs, we recommend buying a laptop with an Intel U-series or H-series Core i5 processor, at least 8GB of RAM (16GB is even better), and at least 256GB of storage space. AMD is keeping up with its 4000-series chips, so you might want to look into those too. The MacBook Air 2019, for example, doesn’t meet these requirements (it has a Y-series low voltage), but it’s still a good option if you prefer macOS.
