Symptoms, people at risk and risk factors for hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating)

Symptoms of the disease

Symptoms are triggered during a physical effort, if it is hot and a strong emotion is felt, such as stress or anxiety:

  • A excessive sweating on the feet, palms, armpits, or face and scalp.
  • Sweating all over the body in generalized hyperhidrosis.
  • The perspiration can be heavy enough to wet a garment.

People at risk

  • People predisposed by their heredity. 25% to 50% of people with hyperhidrosis of the hands have a family history4. Each child born to a parent with hyperhidrosis of the hands has a one in four chance of having it in turn;
  • The obese people are at greater risk of generalized hyperhidrosis;
  • People from Southeast Asia are more affected by hyperhidrosis of the hands.

Risk factors

The causes of hyperhidrosis are not well known, no risk factors were found.
