About 30% of uterine fibroids cause symptoms. These vary depending on the size of the fibroids, their type, number and location.

  • Vaginal discharge like water (hydrorrhea)

  • Pain in the stomach or lower back.
  • Frequent urge to urinate if the fibroid is putting pressure on the bladder.
  • Distortion or swelling of the lower abdomen.
  • Pain during sex.
  • Repeated infertility or miscarriages.
  • Constipation if the fibroid squeezes the large intestine or rectum.
  • Disorders during childbirth or delivery (expulsion of the placenta). A large fibroid can, for example, lead to a cesarean section if it blocks the passage preventing the child from being expelled.
