Spices, laughter and other ways not to get sick with COVID-19 and SARS from Komarovsky and Myasnikov

The new infection made us think about prevention. But are there any real ways to boost immunity and not get sick? We’ll ask the doctors.

Maintaining immunity is not an easy task. Some do not believe in the existence of a new infection and, as before, visit crowded places, play sports in the open air and do not get sick. But there are those who, despite their active lifestyle, were among the first to catch the coronavirus. Is there a special diet to increase immunity that will protect us during the spread of a dangerous virus? Endocrinologist-nutritionist and wellness coach Natalia Sevastyanova will tell the readers of Wday.ru about this.

 – There are no universal defense mechanisms, because every person is unique. No one will give you advice that is 100 percent guaranteed that you will not get sick when you encounter a virus. There are only recommendations that, perhaps, will increase non-specific protection. The task of a person is to place additional checkpoints on the path of the virus so that the body is fully armed. I propose to analyze the ways to increase immunity, which are currently being actively discussed.

1. Taking vitamin D… The new coronavirus infection has sparked interest in this vitamin. There are studies that have established a link between a lack of vitamin D in the patient’s body and infection with “covid”. But it is very important to take vitamin D at the optimal dose for you. How to find out? Get tested for the amount of this vitamin and consult a doctor. Just drinking 500 or 1000 units a day is like pointing your finger at the sky. This will only create the misconception that we are protected. Only a doctor, based on your tests, can prescribe an adequate dosage for you.

2. Checking ferritin levels… This test will tell your healthcare professional if you are iron deficient or not. From the point of view of functional medicine, its level should correspond to the patient’s weight. If your ferritin is low, your doctor will recommend iron supplements. Why is there so much talk today about this complex protein complex, and before the pandemic, most did not even hear about it? Iron reserves in the body, in simple terms, help to competently carry oxygen: when it is not enough, the cells starve, do not breathe and cannot fully ensure safety.

3. Observe the regime of work and rest… Get enough sleep. If we are in a state of chronic lack of sleep, stress, then at any moment this bomb can explode. In order for the body to work in a normal mode, all its “soldiers” must perform their tasks 100 percent, and this is impossible with a constant violation of the regime of work and rest.

4. Short-term hardening… Our grandparents highly appreciated dousing with cold water, but we forgot about it or are lazy. And in vain! After all, competent tempering (you can read more about this here) will help the body to be calm and ward off the blow when it encounters a virus.

5. Taking curcumin… This active component is a herbaceous perennial plant of the ginger family. It is part of dietary supplements to strengthen the immune system. But you need to take it with caution, especially if there are problems with the gastrointestinal tract.

Helpful Life Hack: It’s safer to add a small pinch of turmeric seasoning to your food once a day.

6. Moderate physical activity and walks in the fresh air are also necessary for strong immunity.

Advice from doctors Evgeny Komarovsky and Alexander Myasnikov

The other day, our favorite pediatrician on his Instagram page named the most useful and useless ways to increase immunity.

In his opinion, the following are ineffective:

  • Dietary supplements

  • Onion and garlic

  • Echinacea and Eleutherococcus

  • Virus amulets

  • Immunomodulators

  • Homeopathy

Effective:

  • Complete sleep

  • Quitting alcohol and smoking

  • High-grade food

  • Moderate physical activity

  • Positive emotions

  • Vaccination

And the famous teledoctor Alexander Myasnikov he calls effective measures to strengthen the immune system:

  • adequate weight and weight loss;

  • regular physical activity in the form of daily exercise;

  • hardening;

  • increased physical activity – for example, walking.

He called the intake of immunomodulators, probiotics, dietary supplements and herbal tinctures ineffective measures.
