Soil for clematis
Clematis is picky about the planting site and the quality of the soil. It does not take root during transplants. Therefore, it is important to initially determine the correct location for it.
Vines can be planted both in spring and autumn. The right time depends on the type of clematis. Plants with a closed root system are planted in summer or autumn. For vines with open roots, the best planting time is the beginning of spring.
To plant clematis, the soil must be nutritious and loose. Good aeration is important to him. Moisture stagnation poses a serious threat to it. When planting, be sure to use drainage. The growth of a vine is influenced by location. It is necessary to provide her with suitable conditions:
- Lighting – Clematis needs a lot of diffused sunlight. Direct sunlight can cause the roots to overheat, which will inhibit growth. With a lack of light, flowering does not occur. It is better to choose a seat in partial shade.
- An excess of moisture leads to root rot. You should not plant a liana in places with a close location of groundwater. If the plant is grown to decorate the wall of a house, it is necessary to retreat from it by 50 cm. This will prevent water flowing from the roof to get on it.
- Wind protection – constant wind damages the shoots and flowers of the creeper. This leads to a slowdown in its growth and deterioration of its aesthetic properties.
Vines grow worst of all on the southern and northern sides, as well as in low-lying areas. They don’t bloom in the wrong place. High drainage can solve the problem of groundwater.
Soil for clematis vines when planting in a hole
Clematis should be planted in a deep and wide pit. Its diameter should be at least 60 cm, and its depth should be at least 70 cm. To protect the liana from groundwater, drainage is installed at the bottom of the pit. The hole is filled with a mixture containing:
- peat – 1/3 part;
- garden land – 1/3 part;
- humus – 1/3 part;
- a small amount of sand, giving an airy structure;
- superphosphate.
The composition of the mixture can be changed depending on the characteristics of the soil on the site. Add compost to loamy soil. Black soil will help improve the structure of sandy soil. Alkaline soil is suitable for planting. Acidic soils must be preliminarily limed.
Subject to the rules of planting, clematis can regularly bloom in one place for about 25 years. Caring for him is loosening, moderate watering and pruning. The vine is resistant to pests and will decorate the garden for a long time.
