Social phobia (social anxiety) – Our specialist’s opinion

As part of its quality approach, Passeportsanté.net invites you to discover the opinion of a health professional. Dr. Céline Brodar, psychologist, gives you her opinion on the social phobia :

Social phobia is akin to a real handicap for people who have it. This suffering should not be trivialized or blamed on significant shyness. While the shy person is afraid of being ignored by others and only wants to be accepted by others, the social phobic person is overwhelmed by the fear of being humiliated by others and seeks to be forgotten. . More than an embarrassment, it is a real panic that invades the phobic person in situations where he feels observed. Convinced that she is not up to the task or that she is “zero”, she gradually isolates herself and can then sink into depression. Faced with manifestations of this type, do not hesitate to consult a psychologist or psychiatrist who is familiar with this disorder. By working on self-esteem and assertiveness, real changes and improvements are more than possible.
