Ski joëring for children

In its country of origin, Sweden, ski joëring is an ancestral sport combining skiing and equestrian harnessing. For the record, its appearance dates back to 2500 years before Jesus Christ! At the time, it was used as a means of locomotion. Today, ski joëring has become a fun and family activity, typically mountainous.

Ski joëring, let’s get started!

You don’t need to be an experienced rider to ski joering. For novices, it is practiced in tandem. Skis on, the driver clings to a rigid frame and steers the horse or pony with the reins. The passenger skier stands next to it, also holding onto the frame.

For beginners or for a walk, ski joering is practiced on a groomed slope.

On the equipment side, the length of the skis must not exceed 1m60, at the risk of injuring the horse. Wearing a helmet is also recommended.

Ski joëring: from what age?

From 6 years old, children can learn to ski joëring, provided they know how to keep their skis parallel.

For more sustained walks, with galloping passages, a good mastery of alpine skiing is recommended.
