Shower oil: what’s more?

Shower oil: what’s more?

Shower oil poured into the bathrooms just like shower foam. Are shower gels no longer in fashion? In any case, the oil is considered more natural a priori and, above all, it moisturizes and nourishes the skin. Let’s see what are its advantages and how to choose it.

Is washing your body with oil a good idea?

Oil, in all areas of cosmetics

Oil has invaded all areas of cosmetics. Make-up removal oil, oil to nourish the face, oil for the hair and of course oil for the body. But one type of oil in particular has appeared on the shelves of supermarkets, drugstores and perfumes: shower oil. It can now be found on all stalls and in all price ranges.

The oil washes as well as a shower gel, if not better

Washing your body with oil may seem paradoxical, but on the contrary, it is a great cleansing product. You may have already known that with makeup removal oil. Indeed, nothing like to catch all the impurities and make them disappear.

Same observation with shower oil, it washes perfectly without attacking the skin. Because this is where its main advantage lies: instead of stripping like a classic soap, or even a shower gel, it nourishes.

Choosing the right washing oil

Composition above all

With the many shower oils now on the market, it’s hard to make a choice. This can relate, as for a shower gel, to the smell and the promises of the packaging. But it is more prudent to rely above all on the composition of the oil in order to really have a cleansing product that is interesting from all points of view.

But if a cleansing of the face is possible with a simple vegetable oil, it is not the same for the body. This would leave a greasy film that would not allow getting dressed right away. Shower oil cannot therefore be 100% oil. It is in fact composed of a conventional washing base, oil of course, in a proportion of about 20%, and water.

Beware of “bad” oils

This composition makes it possible to wash under the same conditions as with a shower gel or a soap. However, the ingredients are not always that simple. Indeed, some shower oils contain mineral oils. If the term does not worry a priori, it should be known that mineral oil comes from the petrochemical industry. While it is indeed a natural oil, it is far from being vegetable. In addition, it does not provide any interesting nutrients for the skin. Worse, it clogs the pores. Better to avoid it. On the packaging, you will find it under the name of Mineral Oil ou Paraffinum Liquidum.

An oil suitable for her dry skin

There are shower oils sold in drugstores that are dedicated to very dry or atopic skin. This is a very interesting option to enjoy a shower without worrying about having tight skin after drying.

How to use shower oil?

Like a classic shower gel

Shower oil is used in the same way as a shower gel. But most of those you find in stores turn into milk on contact with water.

All you have to do is pour a small amount of product into the palm of your hand and apply it to your body. Use light massages to penetrate the oil and dislodge impurities. Your skin will then be nourished and perfectly washed. You can then rinse.

You will therefore not need to use a moisturizer for the body afterwards. Unless, of course, your skin is very dry. In this case, additional and suitable milk will always be necessary.

Cons-indications

Do not confuse cleansing shower oil with certain oils that are used after showering, in place of moisturizing milk. These are applied to the skin which is still damp, in order to facilitate penetration, and do not rinse. As a result, they are sometimes more nourishing than shower oils.

Also, if you shave your legs in the shower, prefer foam to shower oil. This could accumulate on the razor. The shower foam is on the contrary very practical for shaving, it allows the razor to slide without risking a cut or irritation.
