Salads can be considered the salvation of any meal. They cannot be spoiled during cooking, they are quite satisfying and do not require much effort, time and exhausting standing at the stove. In a word, salad is a versatile dish that is ready to diversify the taste sensations of everyone. Salads with ham, balyk or smoked sausage are especially popular.

About salad, food and ancient Rome

It is the ancestors who lived in Ancient Rome that should be thanked for their imagination and courage, embodied in the creation of a new dish – salad. This dish is prepared from absolutely any available products, which, however, must be combined to taste. And if earlier the salad was prepared from onions, honey, broth and vinegar with the addition of vegetables, now it is an extravaganza of taste from meat or seafood, from vegetables or fruits that is not subject to the canons.

One of the most beloved dishes in antiquity is a ham salad with cheese. All the ingredients were already known then, but they have remained unchanged to this day. Perhaps the technology of their manufacture has changed, but these are details. To make a ham salad, you need:

– 500 g of smoked ham (you can take boiled smoked); – 250-300 g of hard cheese (not too salty, otherwise it will drown out the taste); – 4 fresh tomatoes (red, not cherry); – a couple of cloves of garlic (who is not a fan, can abstain); – 4 slices of fresh white loaf (without raisins and other sweet fillings); – vegetable oil for frying; – mayonnaise and salt (as the taste suggests).

The first ham appeared in Ancient Rome in the XNUMXst century BC. There it was made from minced meat pressed in a hollow cylinder. Much later, they began to make it from dry, dried, salted or smoked meat.

Cooking ham and cheese salad

The cooking process itself is surprisingly easy. First, the existing loaf is cut into cubes or cubes and sent to a preheated pan with butter. This is how you get ruddy croutons that need to be cooled and allowed to drain off the excess oil by placing the toasted bread on a napkin.

Tip: Frying in olive oil will make the tomato salad more flavorful, but will require less mayonnaise.

While you have time, you can wash and chop the tomatoes, preferably finely. Then cut the ham into thin strips, grate the cheese on a coarse grater. But it is better to pass the garlic through the garlic press, so it will turn out in moderation. Put all the ingredients in one container, not forgetting about the croutons, add mayonnaise to them, salt and mix.

In no case should such a salad be served warm, otherwise the taste will be too cloying and heavy. By the way, even for lovers of healthy food there is a salvation: a salad with tomatoes, ham and feta cheese. But this little kitchen opening is refueled with a mixture of sour cream and mayonnaise.

Small openings in the kitchen

An interesting discovery was the ability to diversify such a dish by adding other components. For lovers of a variety of flavors, a salad with mushrooms and ham will be a generous gift. Among other things, it will add:

– 300 g of champignons (better than canned), but you can choose other favorite mushrooms; – 2-3 chicken eggs. But the loaf and garlic will have to be excluded, the cheese should be taken in half.

Ingredient manipulation is similar. Send finely chopped onions to fry in a deep frying pan, add chopped mushrooms there a few minutes later and fry for 10 minutes without closing the lid so that the water evaporates. Then mix all this in a deep bowl with finely chopped tomatoes, ham and boiled eggs. Add shredded cheese. Pour the resulting mixture with mayonnaise.

It is best to try stirring to determine how much salt is required. Those interested can add black pepper or herbs, for example, for decoration. Basically, this salad with mushrooms and ham is served as an independent dish due to the satiety.

This version of the salad is also made flaky. But so that it does not spread, does not fall apart and can please both guests and households, you need to drain the excess juice from the chopped tomatoes, and add mayonnaise quite a bit. In this case, it is better to serve it separately on the table in a convenient container, so that everyone can take as much as needed.

Lay out the puff ham salad with cheese and mushrooms on a flat dish or large plate. They usually start with a layer of mixed cheese, eggs and drops of mayonnaise, sprinkle with ham on top, then tomatoes, and then turn the mushroom layer. You can close the salad with another layer of cheese and eggs, and decorate with a spoonful of mayonnaise with herbs on top.
