Risk factors for leptospirosis

– All people residing or staying in tropical regions where the frequency of the disease is higher have a higher risk of contracting leptospirosis.

– People who work outdoors,

– Those who take care of animals (veterinarians, farmers, animal handlers, soldiers, etc.) are also more at risk,

– Sewer workers, garbage collectors, canal maintenance managers, wastewater treatment plant employees,

– fish farmers,

– workers in rice fields or sugar cane fields, etc.

Some activities are also at risk such as:

– the hunt,

– the pêche,

– agriculture,

– animal husbandry,

– gardening,

— l’horticulture,

– work in the building,

– roads,

– breeding,

– the slaughter of animals …

– Leisure activities in fresh water: rafting, canoeing, canyoning, kayaking, swimming, especially following heavy rainfall or flooding.
