Puree is usually the first dish a newborn baby tries. Therefore, mothers are very responsible in introducing complementary foods to the baby’s diet and in preparing the first meals for children.

By the age of six months, breast milk or infant formula becomes insufficient for the full development and growth of the child. It is recommended to start complementary foods with vegetable puree. At 6 months, you can give your baby zucchini, cauliflower, broccoli to taste, from 7 months it is permissible to feed the baby with potatoes, green peas, carrots, pumpkin, spinach.

After the introduction of cereals into the baby’s diet, you can start feeding fruit puree.

For the first sample, it is recommended to take an apple, pear, peach, gradually adding other products to the diet.

At 7-8 months, you can start giving puree from lamb, rabbit meat. A little later, veal, pork, turkey, chicken should be introduced into the diet.

An eight-month-old baby can be given a taste of seafood puree.

For the correct introduction of complementary foods, you should adhere to the following recommendations:

  • a new dish can only be given to a healthy child
  • the first complementary food should be introduced into the second feeding, and then the next one in order should be replaced
  • it is important to monitor the reaction of the baby’s body to a new product
  • complementary foods should only be given before feeding with milk or formula
  • you should start introducing a new product with half a teaspoon, bringing the volume of food to normal within 1,5-2 weeks
  • puree should be given only from a spoon and only warm
  • do not introduce two new products at the same time

How to make baby puree at home

To make baby vegetable puree, you need to buy fresh or frozen food. They must be well washed, peeled, cut, boiled in an enamel bowl. It is advisable to soak the food in cool water for one to two hours before cooking. Cook vegetables until cooked in a little water. The future mashed potatoes need to cool, drain off excess water, grind with a blender or mash with a fork until smooth.

You can buy baby puree at the store. In this case, you must make sure that the composition of the dish does not include salt, sugar, preservatives, dyes, thickeners.

You can add a couple of drops of vegetable oil to vegetable puree, and from 7-8 months, half of the yolk.

The rest of the mashed potatoes are prepared according to the same principle as vegetable ones. To prepare fruit puree, you can use a double boiler or boil the fruit on the stove for no more than 5-7 minutes in order to preserve all vitamins as much as possible.

Meat and fish should be used only chilled, mashed potatoes should be done not in the broth in which the product was cooked, but in water or a decoction of vegetables.
