Prevention of toxoplasmosis (toxoplasma)

Why prevent?

Infection with toxoplasmosis can have serious consequences in people with weakened immune systems or in fetal development, in pregnant women.

Measures to prevent toxoplasmosis

As a precaution, pregnant women should:

  • Wear gloves when handling cat litter or gardening (the disease is transmitted by animal feces).
  • Wash the fruits, the vegetables and herbs.
  • Avoid the raw meat or undercooked.
  • Avoid smoked meats or marinated, unless they are well cooked.
