Practical advice to prepare for the arrival of twins

A birth list to properly manage the arrival of twins

Consider opening a birth list so that your family and friends can buy what you will actually need. So avoid all the superfluous, and get some useful things offered to you, such as deckchairs, a large park, a stroller … Stocking up diapers upstream can also be a good way to spread expenses over several months rather than end up with a lot of expense back home.

Think about benefits

Check with your CAF. Some offer free hours of housekeeping during and after pregnancy. But it depends on the departments. You can also contact your PMI center. Some send nursery nurses to your home to help and advise you after the birth of your children.

Solicit the family

Feel free to ask your loved ones for a hand. If, for example, your mom is a cook, ask her to prepare small dishes for you to freeze. To try and escape with your partner for dinner, ask a couple of friends to come babysit your babies. As a couple, it’s easier to take care of several children, especially when you are not used to it!

Have the groceries delivered

Water packs, diapers … The ideal is to order everything on the internet and have it delivered to your home. Most supermarkets have their own cybermarket, so you will be spoiled for choice. Another option: the Multiples Central or CDM. Reserved for parents of twins, this center offers childcare equipment, hygiene and food products with discounts… sent home.

Spare your back

Easier said than done ? In order not to tire yourself too much, do not ignore the changing table. You can also buy small tubs that you put on a dresser. The bath will be easier. When breastfeeding or bottle-feeding your children, try to make yourself comfortable and support your back well.

Rent equipment

Before you rent everything, figure out if it’s really worth it. It is indeed sometimes more profitable to buy than to rent. This is particularly the case with the bed, which you will need for a long time. Renting during the first few months can be a good thing, however, as it allows you to spread out expenses. It’s up to you to see what will be the most advantageous for you.

Anticipate for baby bottles

In case of artificial breastfeeding, know that at the beginning, each baby takes about 8 bottles per day. Which means that you will have to prepare 16 ! A little time-saving trick: put water in the bottles, keep them in the fridge and prepare the powdered milk in pods. This way, you won’t need to count the spoons. Practical, in the middle of the night! Do not bother to heat the bottles if your babies do not have any particular transit problems: a bottle at room temperature is fine.

Keep a notebook to write everything down

Who ate what, how much, when. As in maternity, plan a notebook in which you will note the time at which each baby took his bottle or the breast, the quantity drunk, if he has urinated, if he has had a bowel movement, if he has had a bowel movement. taken medication… This will let you know which child did what, and will be very useful in case of doubt or immediate memory loss, which is not uncommon as parents of twins! But it will also facilitate the taking over by the dad or another person close to him. Similarly, if babies do not take the same milk, use different colored bottles for each or put their initials on the cap.

Limit costs

Obviously you will need a lot of duplicate stuff. But for example, unless your babies are really very small, don’t buy newborn clothes, take 1 month. And then, think about sales depots but also during periods of sales, thanks to which you will be able to fill their wardrobe at a lower cost.

Join an association

You don’t have to. However, this allows you to get a lot of information and of course to exchange with other parents of twins. For the list of departmental associations, visit the website of the Federation Twins and More.
