Parvovirus B19 screening

Most of the time, this infection, also called “fifth disease”, affects children. Symptoms: red cheeks and temperature. Benign for them, this contagious disease can be serious for an unimmunized pregnant woman and her baby. It can indeed cause malformations, miscarriages or fetal death. In fact, the risk of contamination to the fetus is rare.

What should alert you: one of your children has Parvovirus B19 and / or you have a high temperature, rash. Screening consists of a blood test. Clinical, immunological and ultrasound monitoring is performed, in case you are a carrier of this disease. The goal: to check the possible effects it could have on the baby.
