Oily hair is a real headache on a daily basis. Oily hair makes it look sloppy, even though you’ve washed your hair that morning. Appropriate care, small daily gestures and beauty tips, discover our tips for no longer having oily hair.

I have oily hair, what should I do?

Oily hair is caused by excess sebum: for a variety of reasons, your scalp produces too much sebum, which makes your hair greasy. On its own, sebum is a good thing since it is what keeps your hair hydrated. However, when your scalp produces too much, your hair looks dirty. For some, having oily hair is part of their hair nature: just like the skin, which can be dry, mixed or oily, we find naturally dry or oily hair. This does not mean that there are no solutions.

To stop having oily hair, there are a few simple daily steps that can help you:

  • Do not brush them too much : this stimulates the scalp, therefore the production of sebum. On the other hand, it takes a little brush stroke a day to untangle the hair and distribute the sebum over the lengths in order to nourish them.
  • Do not overuse dry shampoo : even if it is a good troubleshooting solution to hide oily hair, at too high a dose, it damages the scalp, which responds by producing more sebum.
  • Don’t touch your hair too often : by running your hand constantly through your hair you stimulate the production of sebum. In addition, if your hands are dirty you risk getting your hair dirty and making it greasy even faster.
  • Rinse your hair well : forget too hot water and express rinsing, for very clean hair, take the time to rinse each area well. Of course, for residue-free hair, you also need a suitable shampoo.
  • Space out washes : the more greasy the hair, the more often it is washed … a vicious circle because washing your hair too often damages the scalp and produces more sebum in response. The hair greases therefore even faster.
  • Limit fatty foods : as for the skin, a diet that is too fatty will give an oily scalp.

Shampoo oily hair: how to choose suitable care?

For oily hair, appropriate care is needed, specific to oily hair. We avoid shampoos for dry hair, too rich, and we opt for shampoos for oily hair. If your hair greases quickly but the lengths are dry, you can alternate with a shampoo for normal hair so as not to dry out the ends too much. If you have to wash your hair every day or every other day, choose a shampoo for frequent use, suitable for daily washing without damaging the hair too much.

When choosing your shampoo, you can opt for shampoos with green clay or rasshoul, which are ideal components for absorbing excess sebum. Finally, avoid shampoos based on silicone or collagen, which grease and weigh down the fiber. These components aim to make the hair soft and shiny, but they are difficult to rinse and tend to leave residue in the hair, which therefore greases even faster.
