More than 67 thousand Muscovites passed free cancer screening

On February 8, 9, 15, 16 and 29, an action was held in 50 polyclinics and 16 branches of the Moscow Center for Dermatovenereology and Cosmetology, timed to coincide with the World Cancer Day.

“Within a month, Muscovites could undergo early diagnosis of the most common oncological diseases: lung, breast, prostate, cervical, skin, colorectal cancer,” said Anastasia Rakova, Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Social Development.

Among the most popular types of examinations are breast and lung diagnostics. More than 24 thousand women underwent mammography and ultrasound of the mammary glands. Fluorography, X-ray and low-dose computed tomography of the chest organs were done by 22 thousand people.

Other numbers are impressive too. 23 thousand women underwent a cytological examination of a cervical smear. More than 10 thousand men (over 45 years old) have taken a blood test for PSA, an elevated level of which may indicate the first signs of prostate cancer.

Among those wishing to investigate moles and pigmented skin neoplasms in the branches of the Center for Dermatovenereology and Cosmetology, there was also no overcrowding. More than (!) 14 thousand Muscovites visited the doctors.

“These meaningful interventions help us detect early cancer, which in turn increases the chances of successful treatment. The sooner doctors can detect abnormalities, the higher the patient’s chances of successful therapy and complete recovery, ”added Anastasia Rakova.

The Moscow Healthcare Department pays special attention to the prevention and timely diagnosis of diseases. A unified standard of oncological care is being introduced in Moscow, according to which all the necessary assistance in the fight against cancer will be concentrated in six multidisciplinary centers based on the largest hospitals with state-of-the-art pathomorphological laboratories.

A system of assistance to patients with oncological diseases will be created – from the detection of a disease in a polyclinic to treatment and subsequent management of this patient. To this end, it is planned to open three new radiation therapy centers in the capital, four oncologic dispensaries and a number of specialized departments in the largest city hospitals.

In 2019, Moscow became the first Russian region to switch to new recommendations for the treatment of six types of the most common oncological diseases three years earlier than the established date, including breast, prostate, kidney, rectal (colorectal cancer), bronchial (lung) cancer. ) and melanoma.

In 2020, the program is planned to be expanded – it will include drugs for the treatment of four more types of oncological diseases, such as bladder, ovarian, stomach, head and neck tumors.
