Medical treatments for sunstroke (Heat stroke)

The primary objective of the treatment is to lower the temperature. The management of sunstroke must be very fast. At the first signs, the person should be lying down in a place that is as cool and ventilated as possible, in the shade. We must give him water to drink as soon as possible. A lukewarm shower is helpful in lowering body temperature. If there is no shower, it is important to wet the skin abundantly and regularly to allow the water to evaporate on contact with the body heat. It cools the body.

Help must be called in severe cases of sunstroke, i.e. if the person loses consciousness, is absent and does not react normally, has convulsions or if his eyes appear hollow and his tongue and lips dry.

Aspirin and paracetamol are not recommended during heatstroke or sunstroke. They have no effect on fever linked to sunstroke. Paracetamol can attack the liver already attacked by heat stroke and aspirin can cause blood circulation disorders (hemostasis).
