Makeup showcased by Dior in Tokyo

In Tokyo, the Dior Pre-Fall 2015 collection was shown, for which Peter Philips created an unusual make-up in the spirit of kabuki theater and girls from Japanese cartoons. The Woman’s Day editorial team will tell you how make-up artists created the images of models.

The makeup for the Dior Pre-Fall 2015 show in Tokyo last night was created by the house’s creative director of makeup, Peter Philips. He developed a graphic image, which he called Electric Kabuki: it echoed new creations by Raf Simons and the futuristic design of the show.

“I wanted to create an image with a strong eye accent that was both graphic and abstract. This makeup looks as good from afar as it does up close, ”says Peter Philips.

“I was inspired by kabuki makeup with its austere, dramatic aesthetic. But at the same time, I decided to add sparkling elements that cast a glint in the eyes and made the models a little like manga characters. “

Philips used a felt-tip eyeliner to draw a black rectangle in the middle of the eye on the lower and upper eyelids, across the width of each model’s iris. The edges of the eyes were left untouched by makeup, with the exception of Diorshow mascara.

“I also wanted to emphasize the look with a flash of light, so I added a few large sequins to the center of the upper eyelid. They reflected light every time the models closed their eyes and created an expressive futuristic effect, ”added Peter Philips.

The hairstyles for the show were created by stylist Guido Palau. He divided the models’ hair into two symmetrical parts and put them in large rings, referring to girls from Japanese cartoons, and to Star Wars.
