Lioton should be in every home medicine cabinet. It is especially useful when the household members have bruises, sprains and bruises. It is also a cure for more serious diseases. How and when to use it?

Lioton is in the form of a gel and is intended for topical application. Its active ingredient is heparin, a substance with the action of:

  1. anticoagulant,
  2. anti-inflammatory
  3. anti-edema.

Lioton 1000 – composition

The active substance of Lioton 1000 is sodium heparin. 1 g of gel contains 8,5 mg of this substance. In addition, the Lioton 1000 gel also includes auxiliary substances:

  1. carbomer 940,
  2. propyl parahydroxybenzoate,
  3. methyl parahydroxybenzoate,
  4. 96% ethanol,
  5. lavender oil,
  6. orange oil,
  7. triethanolamine,
  8. Purified Water.

Lioton 1000 has the following properties:

  1. prevents the formation of superficial clots,
  2. accelerates the dissolution of clots,
  3. accelerates the absorption of hematomas, commonly known as bruises,
  4. normalizes blood viscosity and vascular permeability,
  5. relieves pain,
  6. improves the metabolism of subcutaneous connective tissue.

In short, it shortens the duration of illness and discomfort. Due to these properties, Lotion is used as an adjuvant in the treatment of the following superficial vein diseases:

  1. phlebitis,
  2. thrombophlebitis
  3. varicose veins of the lower extremities.

Besides, it should be used in case of bruises, swelling and contusions. It is also used in the prevention of the formation of hypertrophic scars and keloids, as well as in their treatment (reducing, smoothing, restoring the natural color of the skin).

Lioton 1000 is intended for external use. Squeeze a gel strip of a size sufficient to cover the affected area with a thin layer of the tube. Lioton 1000 is used 2-3 times a day.

In case of edema, it is best to use Lioton 1000 for a period of 10 days, and in the case of venous insufficiency – from 1 to 2 weeks.

Lioton 1000 – precautions

Lioton 1000 must not be used on open wounds or cuts. Protect your eyes and mucous membranes from contact with this drug. Lioton 1000 must not be used for a long time on the same places. Redness, burning sensation or rash may then appear. Treatment should then be discontinued.

It is not recommended for use in children under 12 years of age, as the preparation has not yet been tested in terms of its effects on young organisms.

Precautions should also be taken when using the gel in people with hemorrhagic diathesis. Patients may develop delayed allergic reactions.

Lioton 1000 – side effects

Like all drugs, Lioton 1000 can cause side effects. They happen to a few patients and are harmless to health. These are redness, itching, and a rash. Such ailments disappear soon after you stop using Lioton 1000.

Lioton 1000 – contraindications to use

Lioton 1000 is not recommended for everyone. A contraindication to the use of Lioton 1000 is allergy, i.e. hypersensitivity to any component of the drug, including excipients. Therefore, the gel should not be used by people allergic to parabens due to the presence of the aforementioned excipients. Lioton 1000 should not be used in:

  1. children under the age of 12,
  2. patients with hemorrhagic diathesis (only after medical consultation),
  3. people prone to hemorrhages and bleeding (only after medical consultation),
  4. pregnant women (only after medical consultation).

You should also check with your doctor if you are taking other anticoagulant medications. Lioton 1000 must not be taken orally!

Lioton 1000 – side effects

Lioton 1000 is a preparation that may cause certain side effects. These are usually cutaneous manifestations of allergies such as redness or itching of the skin, or pseudoallergic reactions. This is an indication to discontinue use of the preparation.

People with polycythemia vera may develop maculopapular skin lesions or skin eczema with leukocytoclastic vasculitis after applying Lioton 1000 to the skin.

Any side effects should be reported to allow continued monitoring the effectiveness of Lioton 1000 gel and evaluation of the benefits in relation to the risks of its use.

Lioton 1000 gel should not be used around the mouth, nose and eyes. It should also not be taken by mouth. Patients diagnosed with hemorrhagic diathesis should be especially careful. The drug can also cause allergic reactions due to the parahydroxybenzoate content.

During the use of Lioton 1000 during pregnancy, special care should be taken as there is insufficient scientific data on the safety of using the gel during pregnancy.

The main component of Lioton 1000, heparin, does not cross the placenta or into breast milk. In addition, there are no reports of adverse effects of topical heparin on child development. There is also no information on an increased risk of miscarriage or risk of fetal life with systemic heparin use.

However, it cannot be unequivocally stated that after using Lioton 1000 during pregnancy there will be no complications or worsening of symptoms.

Lioton 1000 – interactions with other drugs

Concomitant use of other drugs with Lioton 1000 may have a negative effect on health. Lioton 1000 interacts most frequently with Aspirin C, Gripex Max and Nurofen Plus. Therefore, it is not recommended to take it with acetylsalicylic acid. In addition, Lioton 1000 must not be used concurrently with anticoagulants, as the risk of bleeding increases. It is also inadvisable to use the gel on large areas of the skin.

There is no information on the interaction of Lioton 1000 with food products. As for Lioton, the opinions of doctors and patients confirm the effectiveness of the preparation, which works well as a drug supporting the treatment of varicose veins and phlebitis. It is also effective in removing minor ailments such as bruises and swelling.

Lioton 1000 gel is best kept out of the reach of children at a temperature not exceeding 25 degrees C. If you notice that the expiry date has expired, stop using the drug. However, it must not be thrown into the rubbish bin. It is best to ask your pharmacist about the disposal of Lioton 1000.
