Despite the terrible name, the crucian killer looks quite ordinary. In its classic form, this is a spring feeder attached to a fishing line. Very short leashes with hooks are attached to the feeder. It is best to make them from a thin cord, thread or very, very soft thin fishing line so that they can sway freely in the water column.

Hooks are equipped with pieces of granular foam, you don’t need to use too large ones, choose the right one so that the hook can just float. Usually the ball is planted immediately behind the ear, you can fix it with glue.

Styrofoam is not a bait! It’s just a way to keep the hooks afloat.

It is very important that the length of the leashes be short – no more than 7-8 cm. If you are catching pure carp, then about 5 cm will be optimal, if there is a chance to catch more carp – then a little more. The size of the hooks is selected large enough so that small carp simply cannot swallow it. Type – carp, with a very long bend, short forearm and “claw”. It is best to put hooks of 8-10 numbers according to the European classification, or at least 8 numbers according to the Soviet one, that is, from underwear to the forearm at least 8 mm.

The number of leashes on such gear is from two to four. More is not recommended.

Then comes the main line, which is attached to the rod. The thickness is not fundamental, the length of the rod, the design of the reel – too. If desired, you can throw the tackle with your hand, like a snack. However, a rod with a reel still simplifies playing, hooking, it is recommended to install at least the most inexpensive side rod with inertia.

A bite alarm may or may not be present. Usually it is a swinger or a bell, a bell, a feeder tip, at shallow depths you can even put a float. Rarely such tackle is used with a feeder rod, but the quiver tip will also show a bite. If necessary, you can do without a signaling device. There are no strict restrictions, the installation may consist of other components.

The principle of fishing

During fishing, the tackle is thrown into the location of the crucian. These can be explored trails, and a landmark is chosen by depth, sometimes fishing is just random. You can throw it into the grass, but it is better not to use it in the snag because of the hooks.

Before this, you need to charge the feeder, insert hooks into the bait. Mastyrka or another rather viscous mass is usually used as bait, you can use cereals, feeder mixtures, compositions for flat feeder, carp fishing are especially effective. Hooks with foam are inserted into the bait. In the process, the bait gradually soaks, the hooks are released under the action of the foam. They are located next to the bait, which is also a nozzle.

The approached crucian begins to draw in food with its mouth, while the larger it is, the higher the retraction force. Some specimens can also draw a hook along the way.

Leashes should be short – so that the hooks are constantly near the bait and the fish can pull them in along with the food!

Usually crucian carp is not too scared, perceives it as garbage, therefore it tries to get rid of it, as a result, sooner or later it self-detects. A large individual will easily carry the spring, give bite signals, it remains only to detect it stronger and pull it out of the water. The classic version is a serif for the lower lip, so you should not drag it too zealously, the lower lip is weaker than the upper one. If you just leave the tackle, you can be left without crucian carp, which will free itself from the hook and leave.

The main option for such gear is a flat banjo-type feeder. It has advantages over a spring if goldfish are caught. The fact is that he does not like to burrow into the hornwort and look for food there, it will be easier for him to notice a flat feeder. Golden, on the contrary, likes to mess around inside a layer of algae and mud, so a spring that will feed both up and deep into the algae carpet will be better for him.

A flat tackle feeder, bringing death to large crucian carp, is equipped with three or four leashes. A weight is almost always placed at the bottom, due to which it always falls with bait up. Otherwise, everything is the same, the hooks are inserted into the bait, the leashes are attached to the side, the length of the leashes is the same. The only difference is that a flat rig will lie on a carpet of grass and silt, without sinking deep into it, the hooks will always be at the top, but it will give less bait.

The second variation concerns the equipment of the hooks. Sometimes hair accessories are attached to them and boilies are mounted on them instead of foam. You can find a variant with a hook attachment, this is designed to make them more attractive and cause a bite rather. In those places where there are a lot of carp, a hair rig is preferable, it is easier to catch a good specimen. The third option is to tie a sinker in front of the feeder. They put a flat one that will take off well when reeling. The sinker is tied on a leash of 20-50 cm. When casting, it flies forward and plunges into a carpet of algae, the thicker it is, the longer the leash. The sinker is used only if necessary to cast a carp rod at a distance of at least 50 meters.

Advantages

The main advantage of tackle is the ability to catch only large carp. In reservoirs, where there is a lot of it, there is no end to the little things, which does not allow the large one to approach the hook and is the first to break off all the nozzles, which reduces bites several times. Although he is there, but a fishing rod is not the best way to catch. The same can be said about rotan – the nipple allows you to avoid its biting.

Autumn is the time when small things are not so active, large carp can be caught more accurately. The nipple practically eliminates the bites of small fish, which have the opportunity to come closer to the feeder and there is no such suction power to accidentally tighten a large hook as well. However, if you want to catch small ones, then the crucian killer is not the best choice. The second advantage is that the tackle is self-driving and does not require much experience and cost. For fishing, you can throw several fishing rods at once, even five or ten, and wait until the signaling device works on some. Thus, you can catch a small pond entirely. For fishing, you can use any rods, reels, the thickest fishing lines, including old ones. The river is also a suitable place for fishing, but you need to load the feeder with an additional sinker behind it, so it keeps better in the current.

The third advantage is the possibility of fishing in the hornwort carpet and on top of the silt layer. The design of such gear suggests that it will not be too heavy and will not be pulled into the grass, as it has a low specific gravity. Even if there is a sinker behind the spring, it will sink into the grass, and the feeder will most likely be on the surface. That is why the sinker must be attached to a leash, and not hung on a feeder.

Disadvantages

1. The main disadvantage of tackle is that fishing is considered unsportsmanlike. This is partly true – to catch fish, you do not need to determine the moment of bite and do the right hooking. However, if you look at carp rigs, they don’t require very precise hooking either, carp usually hook themselves too.
2. The second drawback is that when using a spring, it happens that the hook clings to it, this happens extremely rarely. At the very beginning, while the spring is still well covered with bait, there is simply nothing for the hook to catch on, the foam plastic pulls it away from the hook.
3. The third drawback is that you have to purchase a thin cord for leashes. An ordinary thread is quickly destroyed by water, although it can be used, an ultra-thin soft fishing line does not withstand trophy crucian carp, but the cord will be just right. But the angler may not have this in stock. However, on sale there are inexpensive winter cords in a small unwinding, they are quite suitable.

Features of catching

• The main secret of success is the right lure-nozzle. Mastyrka is well suited, sometimes barley rolled with a rolling pin or corn, store-bought for flat. It often takes time to learn how to cook good groundbait for a given body of water, especially homemade.
• When stuffing the spring, the bait should not be close to the coils, and around it there was a “fur coat” about a centimeter of feed. This will make the feeder heavier, allowing you to perform a long cast, and increase the food trail that the crucian senses from afar.
• When fishing, they try to stick the hooks into different parts of the spring. In this case, even if it rolls over on the wrong side, sinks too deep into the silt or seaweed, at least one hook will be on the surface.
• You need to check the tackle about every hour, regardless of whether there were bites or not. During this time, the spring or cork will have time to get rid of the bait.
• With a successful capture, you need to repeat the cast to the point where the nozzle was before. In this case, clipping and remembering the casting guidelines are useful. In the case when a lot of fishing rods are abandoned, it can be convenient to write them down or even sketch them in a notebook.
• Usually, the “crucian killer” does not aim to feed the fish. Therefore, if a successful fishing point is found, it makes sense to remember it and feed it separately in the future, with a special spod rod.

Purchased tackle

On sale you can find a lot of Chinese gear, which, according to the principle of catching, are similar to a carp killer or a nipple, but they are more designed for catching carp. Usually this is a spring to which many hooks are tied on thread leashes. Typical conversion methods:

When equipping the hooks with foam, you need to plant it closer to the ear so that the hook floats a little bit down with the sting. Hooks must be chosen from a sufficiently thick wire so that the little thing feels them and does not swallow them.

Homemade tackle

If it is not possible to buy, you can make tackle yourself. The spring is wound from any convenient wire: copper, steel, aluminum. The main thing is the thickness, it should be at least 2-3 mm. There are many videos on how to make such a spring and install it. Hooks are attached to it, to the turns themselves. Turns too often should not be done – enough distance between them is about the size of a finger. For ease of use, it is made such that a hand can clasp it.

The size is such that when stuffing the feeder it is slightly larger than the girth of the palm. Do not forget about one centimeter of the “fur coat” of bait around the wire. Rings are bent at both ends – one for attaching an additional sinker, the second for attaching the main fishing line. It is better to make a spring on a rod, especially if the wire is not too thick.
