Injections and injections of beauty for the face: what is, what are, rejuvenation in cosmetology [expert opinion]

How are facial injections used in cosmetology?

Facial injections (they are also called injections or beauty injections) are literally injections in the face: vitamins, hyaluronic acid, fillers and other anti-aging drugs aimed at combating certain skin imperfections. Injection techniques are very popular in cosmetology, as they do not injure the skin, work directly at the site of the problem and have a wide scope.

The most common indications for prescribing a course of anti-aging injections for the face include:

  • the first signs of skin aging: the appearance of mimic and shallow wrinkles, age spots, loss of firmness and elasticity;
  • age-related changes: loss of clarity of the oval of the face, moderate sagging of the skin, the presence of pronounced wrinkles;
  • signs of dryness and / or dehydration of the skin, the appearance of lines of dehydration, peeling;
  • excess oily skin, acne and post-acne marks, enlarged pores;
  • dull or uneven complexion, signs of beriberi;
  • pronounced asymmetry of any parts of the face (most often it is the lips).

Facial injections have few contraindications: first of all, it is an allergy to the components of the administered drugs, as well as chronic endocrine diseases, oncology, acute infectious and inflammatory processes, pregnancy and lactation.

Types of injections for the face

What are facial injections? Let’s take a look at the most popular methods in modern cosmetology.

Biorevitalization of the face

Biorevitalization of the face is an injection technique that involves the subcutaneous injection of preparations based on hyaluronic acid.

The main purpose: fight against dryness and dehydration of the skin, restoration of hydrolipidic balance, elimination of lines of dehydration and fine wrinkles, protection against photoaging (the negative effect of ultraviolet radiation on the skin).

Operating principle: Hyaluronic acid attracts and retains moisture inside the cells, helping to maintain skin moisture levels and restore its protective functions. In addition, hyaluronic acid activates intracellular processes, stimulating the skin’s own synthesis of collagen and elastin.

Required number of injections: cosmetologists recommend biorevitalization regularly, starting from 30-35 years (depending on the initial condition of the skin and individual characteristics). The effect of the procedure usually lasts from 4 to 6 months, during which hyaluronic acid naturally breaks down and is excreted from the body.

Facial mesotherapy

Facial mesotherapy is often called “vitamin injections for the face” or “rejuvenation injections” – which, in general, corresponds to the positioning of this procedure in cosmetology.

The main purpose: general skin rejuvenation, the fight against excess fat, post-acne traces, hyperpigmentation and other minor skin defects.

Principle of action: mesotherapy – these are injections of various preparations (meso-cocktails), which may consist of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, peptides, antioxidants and other substances necessary to combat specific skin imperfections. The drugs are injected subcutaneously and point work directly at the site of the problem.

Required number of injections: the duration and frequency of mesotherapy courses is determined in each case individually – depending on the problem with which the patient applied to the salon or clinic. There is also no clear age at which procedures can be started – according to indications, “vitamin injections” can be given to the face both up to 30 years and after.

Plasmolifting

Plasmolifting is a procedure for introducing into the deep layers of the patient’s skin his own blood plasma enriched with platelets.

The main purpose: rejuvenation of the skin faced with the first signs of aging, the fight against dryness and thinning of the skin, minor aesthetic imperfections and an unhealthy appearance of the skin.

Operating principle: own plasma is the fraction that is most related to a person, saturated with proteins, hormones and various microelements. It contains growth factors that promote the synthesis of elastin and collagen and overall skin rejuvenation. In addition, injections of one’s own plasma minimize the risks of allergic reactions.

Required number of injections: according to the observations of cosmetologists, the younger the patient, the longer the effect of plasma therapy lasts. On average, the procedure is recommended to be repeated every 12-24 months, there are no special age restrictions for it.

Contour correction (introduction of fillers)

Contour plastic is a subcutaneous injection of facial fillers – natural or synthetic gel fillers.

The main purposeA: Fillers are one of the alternatives to plastic surgery. With their help, you can restore the volume of various parts of the face, hide the asymmetry of the lips, remove bags under the eyes, smooth wrinkles on the forehead and nasolabial folds, tighten the oval of the face, and even correct the shape of the chin or nose.

Operating principle: The filler gel is injected under the skin using microinjections, or with the help of cannulas (flexible needles that are “pulled” under the skin). Fillers fill subcutaneous voids and folds, smoothing the skin and giving it the necessary volume, and also strengthen the skin structure.

Required number of injections: The duration of contouring depends on the type of filler injected. Natural biodegradable gels (for example, based on hyaluronic acid) can begin to disintegrate after 1-2 months. And some synthetic fillers (for example, poly-L-lactic acid) have a cumulative effect and require a course of procedures – but the effect of them lasts up to 12 months. Contour plastic is usually resorted to after 45 years – but according to indications, it can be done earlier.

Botox injections

Botox injections are the injection of purified and attenuated botulinum toxin, a drug that affects neuromuscular transmission, under the skin.

The main purpose: Botox (botulinum toxin) injections are primarily intended to eliminate mimic wrinkles and prevent their appearance, as well as to correct some forms of facial asymmetry.

Operating principle: getting into the deep layers of the skin, botulinum toxin acts on the nerve endings, blocking the nerve signals and helping to relax the muscle tissue. This allows you to minimize the consequences of active facial expressions (eliminate facial wrinkles and even “wean” the patient from certain micro-movements), as well as correct facial asymmetry associated with the work of certain muscles.

Required number of injections: persistence and prolongation of the results of the introduction of botulinum toxin depends on the selected dose of the drug and can last from 3-4 to 12 months. Then the course can be repeated – and sometimes even with a decrease in the dose of the drug. With active facial expressions, botulinum therapy can be started from the age of 20-25.

General recommendations for facial injections

Let’s briefly review the basic rules for the preparation and stages of injection procedures. What should be expected by those who decide to make “beauty shots”?

How to prepare for injections?

Here are the main recommendations that work for almost all types of injections in the face: for skin rejuvenation, facial hydration, wrinkles and other possible defects on the face:

  • 10-14 days before the procedure, avoid exposure to the open sun and the risk of sunburn, use products with SPF;
  • give up alcohol and smoking for 2-3 days;
  • for 1-2 days, if possible, refuse to take medications that can provoke vasodilation. (Note: this is a symptomatic medication. If you take any medication on an ongoing basis, be sure to consult your doctor.)

How are facial injections performed?

The procedures themselves are quite routine and do not present any particular difficulty for specialists. Here is the approximate order in which they are carried out:

  1. Consultation with a cosmetologist, during which the specialist assesses the condition of the skin, selects the drug and determines the required number of procedures.
  2. Disinfection: cleansing the skin of make-up and daytime pollution and disinfecting the injection sites with antiseptics.
  3. Anesthesia (if necessary): an anesthetic gel or other anesthetic is applied to the face.
  4. Direct injections: subcutaneous injection of drugs manually, or using special devices with microneedles.
  5. Re-disinfection of the skin and post-procedural care.
