Facial laser procedures [top 4] – types, features, benefits

Features of laser cosmetology

First of all, let’s understand what laser facial rejuvenation is and how it differs from other types of cosmetic interventions. As it is easy to guess from the name, a distinctive feature of the entire group of procedures is the use of a laser – a device that affects the skin with the thinnest, narrowly directed beam of light.

Cosmetic lasers used to rejuvenate the skin of the face can have different power, wavelength, pulse frequency and tissue penetration depth … However, they have the same principle of operation: the laser heats and evaporates certain skin layers, thereby triggering the deep processes of renewal and restoration skin.

Laser rejuvenation can be called an effective alternative to plastic surgery. Procedures using a laser at the cellular level trigger skin regeneration processes and contribute to an overall tightening and rejuvenating effect – without requiring surgical interventions and allowing you to achieve the most natural result.

Indications for laser rejuvenation

Laser facial cosmetology is suitable for solving a wide range of problems:

  • pronounced signs of skin aging: loss of tone, flabbiness, friability, the appearance of wrinkles and age spots;
  • uneven skin relief: the presence of scars, scars, traces of post-acne;
  • slight sagging of tissues (moderate ptosis) and fuzzy contour of the face;
  • skin imperfections: enlarged pores, vascular networks, mimic wrinkles.

At the same time, there are not so many contraindications for laser procedures:

  • chronic diseases, especially in the acute stage (it is better to ask the cosmetologist for the exact list when choosing a specific procedure);
  • pregnancy and lactation;
  • inflammatory and / or infectious processes in the planned treatment areas (including acne in the acute stage);
  • increased tendency of the skin to form scars (consult a beautician).

Types of lasers in cosmetology

There are several types of laser classification: depending on the wavelength, emission spectrum, mode of operation and other parameters. In order not to get confused in the terminology, let’s just analyze the most popular types of lasers used in cosmetology.

Erbium laser

Erbium laser has a short wavelength and is used for so-called “cold” laser procedures. It is quite gentle on the skin, working in the upper layers of the epidermis. In cosmetology, the use of an erbium laser is considered the least traumatic for the skin and practically does not lead to the risk of burns.

COXNUMX laser

A carbon dioxide laser (carboxylic, co2 laser) has a much longer wavelength than an erbium laser; it is used in cosmetology to trigger the synthesis of collagen and elastin in the deep layers of the skin. At the same time, it is important to understand that more laser resurfacing using a co2 laser implies a longer recovery period and requires special skills on the part of the specialist conducting the procedure.

Neodymium laser

The neodymium laser is also used in cosmetology for a deep effect on the skin of the face. It is suitable not only for anti-aging procedures, but also for removing scars, scars, vascular networks, tattoos and permanent makeup. Procedures with its use can be slightly painful for people with a low threshold of sensitivity to pain.

Ablation in cosmetology

We decided to include this complex section in order to briefly introduce you to the methods of laser exposure to the skin. Knowing these terms will help you better understand the recommendations of your beautician and make an informed choice of the type of procedure.

Non-ablative rejuvenation

A non-ablative method is a gentle heating of tissues that does not imply injury to the skin surface. It is used to combat minor signs of aging, superficial pigmentation and “fatigue” of the facial skin. Its advantages include a fairly quick recovery, its conditional disadvantages are a cumulative effect and the need to conduct a course of procedures.

Ablative rejuvenation

The ablative method implies a uniform continuous effect of high temperatures on the surface of the skin (the very “evaporation of layers”), which affects both the epidermis and the layers of the dermis. It is used to correct pronounced age-related signs, smooth wrinkles, stretch marks and scars, eliminate hyperpigmentation, combat looseness and flabbiness of the skin. Such a “laser lifting” requires a rather serious recovery period, but it can give an effect comparable to the results of plastic surgery.

Fractional rejuvenation

The fractional effect of a laser involves the scattering of a laser beam into a large number of microbeams. This allows you to treat not the entire area of the skin as a whole, but small micro-sections – which is a softer and atraumatic effect on the skin. Today, it is fractional rejuvenation that is considered the “gold standard” in cosmetology. Unlike classical ablation, it does not require such a long period of rehabilitation and rarely leads to the formation of itchy crusts.

4 popular laser facial treatments

What is laser facial resurfacing? How is it different from laser peeling? Why do you need laser photorejuvenation and when is biorevitalization done with a laser? We talk about the most popular laser procedures.

Facial laser peeling

Classical laser peeling is superficial – it affects only the upper layers of the epidermis. It is recommended for subtle age-related changes, for the correction of hyperpigmentation and freckles, for the general alignment of skin tone and relief. It helps to eliminate flaccidity and primary loss of skin elasticity and is generally not used to combat the pronounced signs of skin aging.

Laser resurfacing of the face

In fact, facial skin resurfacing is the same laser peeling, only with a deep level of exposure. If classical peeling works with the upper layers of the skin, then laser resurfacing of the facial skin also affects the deep dermal structures, affecting the basic elastin-collagen framework.

Laser resurfacing is used to remove small scars and scars, fight against pronounced age-related changes (deep wrinkles and skin folds), eliminate moderate ptosis, correct the relief and tone of the face, remove the vascular network and narrow the pores.

Laser biorevitalization

Laser biorevitalization is one of the most effective ways to saturate the skin with hyaluronic acid using laser radiation. During the procedure, a special gel with hyaluronic acid is applied to the skin. Under the influence of a laser beam, its fractions penetrate deep into the layers of the dermis, providing intense saturation of the skin with moisture and stimulating the synthesis of the skin’s own collagen and elastin.

Laser photorejuvenation

Photorejuvenation is the treatment of the skin using a laser device with short bursts of high-intensity radiation. Laser photorejuvenation refers to non-ablative procedures and is suitable for working with initial and moderate changes in skin condition. It is also recommended for deep cleansing of the skin and the fight against small vascular networks.
