Wool doesn’t like:
Frequent washing
Woolen fabrics are slightly dirty. The smells of sweat, food and smoke quickly disappear from them. It is enough to hang the woolen sweater on the balcony, and dry the dirty spot and gently brush it off. Frequent washing leads to the fact that the thing loses its softness, falls off, can stretch or, conversely, sit down.
Long soaks
As they say, long farewells are extra tears. If you decide to wash your favorite sweater (and this is by no means contraindicated for woolen things), do not leave it in the water for a long time. Otherwise, the jacket will lose its shape and stretch.
Sudden temperature changes during washing
For example, washing at + 45 ° C, and rinsing at + 10 ° C – this is the easiest way to ensure that the sweater shrinks and safely migrates into the children’s wardrobe.
The maximum temperature for washing woolen items is + 30 ° C. It is best to wash these clothes by hand, with a special detergent or regular shampoo. For more determined housewives – the “Delicate wash” mode in the washing machine. In any case, to be on the safe side, set the temperature control to a minimum. For softness – use a special fabric softener for the last rinse.
Merciless spin
Wool loves tenderness. When washing, it is never rubbed or twisted – otherwise it will fall off and deform. All you can do is just shake it lightly in soapy water. After rinsing, we recommend that you lightly squeeze the water out with your hands (do not twist it!), Then roll it up in a terry towel and wrinkle it a little. Dry it unfolded on a towel or sheet. The shoulders are not suitable for this.
Heat and humidity
In the bathroom, where it is always humid, the wool dries slowly. Hot batteries and the sun are also not the best choices for drying out a wet sweater – it can lose its shape. Optimum conditions are normal room temperature.
Hot iron
Woolen jersey almost does not wrinkle. Sometimes it is enough to hang the jacket on a hanger – and after a while the wrinkled folds will disappear from it. For speed, you can sprinkle it lightly with water. If, nevertheless, there is a need for ironing, be careful not to burn your favorite thing. Iron the garments in the Wool mode with steam or through a damp cloth.
Hangers
Woolen items should be stored folded on a shelf – from a long stay on the hanger, the shoulders and sleeves can be very stretched. Be sure to put a moth repellent next to a pile of woolen clothes – lavender, tobacco, dry orange peels will help.
Mustard instead of powder
In the oldest old fashioned way, woolen (and, by the way, silk) things are washed in a solution of dry mustard. To do this, pour boiling water over dry mustard powder, cool, carefully drain the settled water and wash in it.
