How to tell your child about sex

How to tell your child about sex

Second-graders are given sex education lessons. Do nine-year-old students need information about THIS?

The question was raised by one of the parents: he posted an indignant post on the social network that the school conducts sex education lessons for children, starting from the second grade. To illustrate, they use textbooks with very frank pictures and a very detailed description of what mom and dad do in bed. According to the authors, the “instruction” is designed for middle grades, which is 12-14 years old. Whether nine-year-old schoolchildren need information about THIS, Woman’s Day asked a specialist.

“The book can provoke psychological trauma”

Elena Perkova, psychologist:

“Sex education is an important aspect of a child’s socialization. But it must be remembered that the development of child sexuality is a delicate and delicate process. Untimely and incorrectly submitted information can lead to serious psychological trauma. First of all, I believe that such classes are not the competence of a teacher, whose main task is teaching, but a psychologist who is guided in how much information about the sexual sphere should be given according to age. The psychologist will be able to track the reaction of the children’s audience and work with it correctly. And in case of alarm signals from the child, he will be able to work them out with the parents. The illustrations and texts presented in such textbooks are extremely superfluous, and can only generate unhealthy processes in the second grade children’s collective. In other words, sex education lessons need to be taught by a psychologist with parents of eight-year-olds. It is they who should receive competent advice and, as the child’s psyche matures, correctly build information. “
