How to make pesto at home
 

This Italian sauce is one of the most popular in the world. It’s easy to prepare and available in ingredients.

It is prepared on the basis of basil, cheese and vegetable oil. It is ideal, of course, to cook it like Italians – in a mortar. But in the absence of this kitchen device, you can use a blender.

To make pesto sauce, you need:

  • 60 grams of basil,
  • 50 grams of parmesan,
  • 3 tablespoons of pine nuts
  • 100 ml of olive oil,
  • 3 cloves of garlic – for an amateur,
  • salt to taste.

Method of preparation: 

 
  1. Wash and dry the basil.
  2. Fry nuts a little in a pan.
  3. Cut the garlic cloves into plates.
  4. Grate Parmesan on a fine grater.
  5. Beat the basil and garlic with a blender, add nuts and half of the butter – beat everything at a low speed.
  6. Add the Parmesan, salt and remaining oil and beat again until a creamy consistency. The sauce is ready!

Tips

  • Take basil green, it is less aromatic and harmoniously fits into the recipe, and the color gives a rich one.
  • If Parmesan is not available, go for any other hard cheese.
  • You can add sun-dried tomatoes or capers to the sauce, and replace nuts with others or pumpkin seeds.
  • For a spicier sauce, add black pepper or balsamic vinegar.
  • Basil can be replaced with arugula, dill, spinach, mint, celery.
