Reasons for the appearance of fleas in the apartment
There are two main routes for fleas to enter homes. The first is with animals. These insects live in the ground covered with tall grass. Considering that the insect jumps one and a half meters up, your pet, and frankly speaking, you yourself, are the easiest target for it.
But a much more likely way for fleas to appear in an apartment is the basement of a house.
– In April-May, they begin to appear in the basements and live there until September, when the first noticeable cold comes. The basement of an old house is the most favorable environment for their development. The floors are sandy, pipes flow. When the humidity rises to 70%, and the temperature rises to 20 degrees, fleas begin to breed at a high rate, – told “KP” Daria Strenkovskaya, General Director of the Chisty Dom pest control company.
If in cold weather the female leaves offspring once every 30-40 days, then in a warm and humid basement this happens every three days.
– In this sense, it is easier to remove fleas in the basement of new houses, where the floor is tiled, – adds our interlocutor.

– The closer the temperature is to zero, the slower the reproduction and other vital activity of fleas. In the old days, the main means of getting rid of them in winter was the “studio” of the hut. The family moved and opened all the windows and doors. It really works. Negative temperatures are detrimental to these insects. But in modern life, I cannot say that this is the way to get rid of fleas once and for all. In our apartments, such a shock freeze is simply impossible, – explains entomologist Dmitry Zhelnitsky.

Rather, this is not a full-fledged remedy that will help defeat insects, but a mandatory measure that should go in conjunction with more serious procedures.

One of the difficulties in dealing with fleas is their larvae. They are much more resistant to chemistry than adults. Only heavy insecticides can instantly kill the embryo – hazard classes 4, but these are allowed only in agriculture. They are not used in residential buildings.
– Everything in the apartment is treated with pyrethroids and cypermethrin – these are odorless preparations. Lie down with a thin film. It has a nerve-paralytic effect on the insect – it dies instantly. We recommend that you leave the apartment for the duration of the treatment. If possible, you can take pets. But in general, the composition is not dangerous for them. The same substances are found in flea remedies. You can return back in a couple of hours,” says Daria Strenkovskaya.
However, getting rid of fleas in an apartment once and for all will only be possible with complex processing. Require the management company to call a pest control service to the basement.
– In it, the earth is usually covered with a dust-based agent. Looks like flour. If new larvae appear, they soon die. The substance remains active for up to 60 days. This is enough to cope with the flea population, – added the interlocutor of “KP”.
