How to clean pillows with different fillers at home

What could be hiding in the pillows
During use, the pillow absorbs:
- sweat and greasy discharge;
- salivary discharge;
- viruses, microorganisms, including pathogens.
Such an environment is favorable for the appearance of dust and feather mites, which are invisible to the human eye, but expose you and your loved ones to allergic diseases.
Over time, the pillow begins to exude a musty specific smell, lose its shape and softness. The same metamorphosis occurs with pillows containing artificial filler.
How to clean artificial pillows
Plastics pillows should be washed according to the instructions. Some items are machine washable, others are not. Spinning at high speeds is often detrimental to such a filler. It begins to exfoliate and clump together.
There are general rules for washing products with artificial filler:
- it is better to use gel detergents;
- can not be washed in very hot water;
- it is recommended to set the additional rinse mode;
- it is better to use a gentle spin;
- air dry in a horizontal position, shaking frequently.
Such care will allow you to keep the shape of the product for several years.
How are feather pillows cleaned
You will have to tinker with this category.
Place the feathers in separate bags with wet hands (pillowcases can be used). Soak in 10 liters of water, adding a little gel detergent and 100 g of ammonia. Leave it on for a few hours.
You must be sure that the bags are tight and secure. If they break, the feathers will clog the filter and pump of the machine.
Rinse in several waters, then place the pen in the machine, fill in the gel detergent, set the delicate wash. The spin function should be set to the most gentle speed.
Remove the feather, hang it outdoors and dry by shaking it 4-5 times daily until it is completely dry. If you hurry, the pillows will be irreparably damaged.
The downy contents are washed in the same way.
Think carefully before cleaning your pillows at home, as this is a very troublesome task. Air cleaning and water treatment services are much more reliable, and you will be offered them in any dry cleaning.
