how I worked as a postman (story)

😉 Greetings to new and regular readers of the site! Friends, I want to tell you a funny incident from my youth. This story happened in the 70s, when I entered the 8th grade of a secondary school in the city of Taganrog.

Summer vacation

The long-awaited summer vacation has come. Happy time! Do whatever you want: relax, sunbathe, read books. But many high school students took temporary jobs to make money.

Aunt Valya Polekhina lived in the next doorway of our house, who worked as a postman at post office No. 2 on Svoboda Street.

It so happened that one of the sections was temporarily left without a postman, and aunt Valya invited me and my friend Lyuba Belova to work on this section together, since at that time the postman’s bag was heavy for one teenager. We gladly agreed and took shape.

Our duties included: to come to the post office by 8.00, for subscribers to compile newspapers, magazines, to distribute letters, postcards to addresses and to deliver mail on a site that includes certain streets and alleys of our area.

I will remember the first day of my work for the rest of my life. In the morning Lyuba came to see me to go to the post office together. We decided to have tea, the TV was on.

And suddenly – another episode of our favorite film “Four Tankmen and a Dog”! How to skip ?! Let’s watch a film and go to work, the mail will not go anywhere! The clock shows 9.00. The eighth episode of the film has ended, the ninth has begun. “Well, okay, another hour …” – decided the young postmen.

At 10 o’clock, Aunt Valya came running with the question why we were not there? We explained that nothing bad would happen if people received their newspapers and letters two hours later.

And Valentina is his own: “People are used to receiving mail on time, they are waiting for the newspaper – not everyone has a TV set, they are waiting for letters from their sons from the army. Both old people and lovers are always waiting for the postman! ”

Oh, and I am ashamed to remember this, friends. Anyone and I earned 40 rubles a month. Not bad money at the time. We liked working.

Apple juice

The next year, all the holidays we worked in a different place – at the Taganrog winery in a team of five high school students. They washed the apples, poured them into a large container and squeezed them under an automatic press. We drank apple juice. It was fun!

Friends, where did you work when you were teenagers? Leave comments on the article “A funny case: how I worked as a postman.” 😉 Thank you!
