Herring salad, the main ingredient of which is beets, is so popular that it is present on many tables at almost every holiday. You can cook herring under a fur coat in different ways, but a certain combination of ingredients is considered classic.

What is required to cook herring under a fur coat

Take: – 300 g of salted herring fillet; – 4 potatoes; – 3 beets; – 1 head of onion; – 3 eggs; – 250 g mayonnaise.

The size of potatoes and beets should be medium, if smaller vegetables are taken, their number should be increased. To decorate the salad, you will need a few sprigs of dill and parsley.

In some cases, 50 g of grated cheese is also used to prepare this recipe, from which a separate layer is made. This changes the taste of the salad, making it more juicy.

Boil the potatoes until tender and cut into thin slices. To keep the potatoes from boiling, you can boil them in their skins, and only then peel and cut them. If you want to get an even more tender salad, then you can not cut the potatoes, but grate them on a coarse grater, like all other products.

Herring fillet can be obtained both by cleaning a whole carcass, or using ready-made canned fillet. The latter method allows you to significantly save time for preparing a salad. Eggs are boiled and grated. Beets are cooked the longest, so it is better to cook them in advance. Before boiling, the beets are not peeled, otherwise they will lose all color. Chilled boiled beets are cleaned, grated.

Each product is placed in a separate bowl, since this salad is flaky. Cut the onion into half rings, scald with boiling water. After that, you can start collecting salad.

How to collect herring salad under a fur coat

The first layer of lettuce is potatoes, its slices are laid out in a thin layer, smeared with mayonnaise. It is convenient to do this by cutting a small hole in the corner of the bag through which the mayonnaise will be squeezed out in a thin stream. You don’t even need to smear such a mayonnaise mesh.

A layer of herring, onions and eggs is lined on top of the potatoes, also smeared with mayonnaise. The final layer of the lettuce is the beets. If a recipe with cheese is being prepared, then rub it before the beets. Top of the beets are also greased with mayonnaise.

If the salad is to be served in a traditional herring maker, it is laid out in one layer. In the event that a deeper salad bowl or portioned bowls are used, then the layers can be repeated in the sequence that was originally used.

Before serving, the salad should be infused for several hours so that the mayonnaise has time to soak all the ingredients. Top of the salad is decorated with onion rings, dill and parsley. The appearance of the prepared salad depends on the imagination of the hostess, since the onion rings and greens can be either simply laid out in the corners of the salad bowl, or made from the onion a semblance of fish scales.
