Hemp, buttered coffee and 7 more new food trends

2019 has already introduced us to some food trends. So, we told our readers about the fashion for office lunches in cans called Jar Food, as well as products that are worth paying attention to this year – tops and kernzes.

And now – a new selection of phenomena in the world of gastronomy, which are worth paying attention to.

Probiotics

This year, attention is drawn to such probiotics as Bacillus coagulans GBI-30 and Bacillus coagulans MTCC 5856 – the so-called innovative probiotics. Already many food brands include these ingredients in their products – oatmeal, soups, nutritional bars, muesli.

Bright exotic fruits

Following the popularity of various bowls (acai bowls, smoothie bowls), fruits are becoming popular, which distinguish bowls from others.

In 2019, pitahaya, guava and jackfruit have already become popular. They will look spectacular in salad and barbecue dishes.

Hemp

Hemp is a good source of omega-3s and is easy to add to your daily diet. It is already present in a number of products such as waffles, pasta, nutritional bars and popcorn, and an even purer version of the product, extracted directly from plant stem cells, is already available in 2019.

Healthy fats

Finally, fats have been reanimated and found to be beneficial. If earlier everything was actively defatted, now nutritionists are teaching people to understand harmful and healthy fats.

Healthy fats can be found in nutritional bars containing coconut or MCT oil, and even butter coffee, the new hot drink trend of adding a cube of butter to black coffee.

Custom ice cream flavors

How do you like hummus ice cream? Or tahini? Or coconut water? Unusual ice cream flavors are gaining more and more sympathizers. So, in Japan, for example, ice cream with green tea and red beans is popular, and in Turkey – salty ice cream.

Are you still asking for strawberries the old fashioned way? Come on, discover non-standard tastes sooner.

Vegetarian snacks

We have already written that Ukraine has created lard for vegans from a very interesting product. So, this year the boundaries of vegetarian snacks are again expanding, more and more interesting forms are being sought. For example, oyster mushrooms are already being used to recreate the texture and flavor of pork. Bacon-free bacon chips and vegan jerky are already on the menus of many restaurants.

Seafood

Samfir, algae oil and paste are just a few of the seafood that will be in the spotlight in 2019. Choose fried salmon skin, vegan seaweed tuna, and high nutritional value miso ramen for low-calorie snacks.

Healthy street food

Street food ceases to be something of little use and of dubious quality. More and more fast foods are trying to include healthy eating suggestions in their menus. In some places, ham and creamy mozzarella are already replacing cheese and meat with no expiration date.

Eco-friendly packaging

Environmental issues are a concern of people around the world. We talked about the fact that Europe is refusing from disposable plastic tableware, and in Georgia, plastic bags have been banned.

Food packaging is arguably the biggest threat to the planet’s ecology, which is why in 2019 many consumers, restaurants and brands such as Wild and the Moon in France and Whole Foods, Nutiva and Lotus Foods are setting an example and using only biodegradable packaging.
