“We are responsible for those we have tamed,” Saint-Exupery, the owner of this pet, clearly did not read.
For some reason, pet owners believe that loving their pet means feeding well. Desirable something tasty, and even from your own table. This “love” usually ends very badly: animals get fat, it becomes difficult for them to walk, and cats also wash their faces, joints and cardiovascular system suffer. It is very difficult for animals to lose weight: this must be done slowly so that the internal organs do not suffer even more, you have to follow a diet and exercise. And the owners are not ready for this – it is too difficult. And they often get rid of pets.
This was the fate that awaited Kai – a golden retriever, which the owner fed up to 80 kilos. This is a lot, because males of this breed should weigh a maximum of 36 kilograms.
“He was begging all the time, begging for a treat from the table, but how can you refuse such a cutie?” – this is how the owner’s excuses sounded.
First, Kai stopped playing, then running. Then it became difficult for him to walk. It was not the same cheerful and perky dog as it had been before. It was an overweight, clumsy dog, which, it seems, even had a fat forehead – folds from the neck were moving towards the muzzle. Instead of a charming dog, it turned out to be a huge pig.

The owners thought and thought and decided that they did not need such a Kai. They found a simple and effective solution: they brought the dog to the veterinary clinic and demanded that the doctor put the dog to sleep. Yes, because of the weight. Fortunately, the vet refused to do this. So Kai got his second chance.
Kai ended up in an orphanage. And soon a kind woman was found who managed to change his life and his appearance. Kai started physical education, including water aerobics. He began to eat right and fell in love with carrots. Moreover, Kai has a partner in weight loss – a huge dog named Woody. He is even bigger (and fatter) than a Labrador, but losing weight together is still more fun.
Two years later, Kai was no longer recognizable. This is no longer a heavyweight pig with a sad look, but a normal playful Labrador, as it should be at its age, weighing 31 kilograms. True, such an extreme weight gain did not pass without leaving a trace for health. Kai’s hind leg joints were badly damaged, and now he is forced to wear special braces on his knees.

“It was hard for my joints to carry the extra 48 kilograms. But when I was obese, it was too risky to have joint surgery. As I lost weight, I became much more mobile! I loved to run, jump and play. However, the damage to the joints did not go away. My veterinarian and I refused the operation and opted for conservative support. Now I wear braces – only when we walk for a long time. Braces give me freedom, including from pain! I can run, swim and jump. So do not worry – I am happy and free to do whatever I want, ”writes the new owner Kai on his behalf on the Labrador’s social network page.
