Growing parsley outdoors

Parsley is grown for root crops or vitamin greens. In the first case, the culture is grown from seeds, in the second – from root crops.

Growing parsley from seeds

Parsley takes a long time to emerge, so it is better to plant already germinated seeds. So the culture will have time to give a bountiful harvest and overwinter. The plant prefers fertile and sunny areas, protected from strong winds and drafts. It is better to prepare the garden back in October by digging up the ground and fertilizing it with humus.

To sprout faster, you need to do this:

  • soak the seed in lukewarm water for 48 hours, during which time the water will need to be changed at least 10 times;
  • soak for 20 hours in stimulating solution.

Seedlings from prepared seeds appear within 7 days. For 2 sq. m you need at least 2 g of seed. The distance between plants varies depending on the species. Root varieties are planted at a distance of 3-4 cm, leafy ones – 10-11 cm. In the first case, the seeds are planted individually, in the second – 3-4 pieces at a time. The depth of the grooves is 0,5-1 cm; for autumn planting, this figure should be doubled.

It is advisable to cover crops with foil and gently water and ventilate. When the seedlings rise, they need to be thinned out. When the first pair of true leaves appears, the greens need to be fed. Weeding and loosening of the soil should be done regularly.

Growing parsley in the open field from root crops

To grow this plant in the open field, methods are used that allow you to get a bountiful harvest of greens.

Root vegetables can be dug up for the winter and stored in a cool basement. In the spring they need to be prepared for planting:

  • shorten to 13-14 cm;
  • clean from dry foliage and roots;
  • treat with a stimulant;
  • plant under the film at a distance of 9 cm from each other.

This planting makes it possible to get 3 full harvests per season.

Parsley grown from seeds can be left in the ground for the winter. It is only necessary to prepare it in time for the end of the growing season: cut off the remnants of greenery at the end of September, and with the onset of cold weather sprinkle it with earth and cover it with mulch – straw or leaves. In the spring, as soon as the snow melts, the mulch must be removed and the film shelter stretched instead, then fresh greens will appear in the garden in April.

Compliance with the rules of cultivation allows you to collect a bountiful harvest of greens.
