Great Lent: what products to replace the forbidden

In order for you to have enough of the necessary substances during Lent, you need to think over the menu well and include in it an alternative to the usual products. Meat, dairy products, eggs, alcohol (wine is allowed on some days) and sweets are prohibited. 

Meat

First of all, it is a protein, without which normal metabolism and vital functions of the body are impossible.

Instead of meat, you can use legumes – chickpeas, beans, lentils, peas. Legumes have enough protein to keep you active and active throughout the day. Plant protein is different from animal protein and is even easier to digest and absorb.

 

Eggs

This is also animal protein, plus there is a lot of vitamin B in eggs. To prevent its lack in the body, eat cabbage – white cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, Brussels sprouts. Mushrooms or tofu are good sources of protein. For baked goods and minced meat, use starch, semolina, baking powder, or starchy fruits like banana.

Dairy produce

The main benefit of dairy products is their calcium content, which is essential for healthy bones, hair, nails and the nervous system. How can you make up for the lack of calcium: poppy seeds, sesame seeds, wheat bran, nuts, parsley, dried figs, dates.

Confection

No biscuits, pies and cookies, all baked goods based on eggs and dairy products, which are prohibited, you can also use gelatin. You can eat dark chocolate without milk, any dried fruit, any nuts in syrup or chocolate, as well as kozinaki without butter. Eats marshmallows, marmalade and jelly with pectin, honey, homemade jam and fruits.

To make it more satisfying

Build your menu so that cereals are always present in it as often as possible. During the fast, they will become your energy base. These are oatmeal, buckwheat, barley, quinoa, millet – they can be served as a side dish, added to lean soups, pies on lean dough.

Do not forget about nuts – a source of vegetable protein, as well as vitamins and minerals, polyunsaturated fatty acids.

Vegetables will help you deal with carbohydrate foods by providing fiber. With the help of vegetables, you can significantly expand the lean menu and even cook baked goods based on them.
