Grape variety Violet early

Violet Early Grape is a versatile table-wine variety with good disease resistance. Bred in the late 1940s as a result of crossing popular varieties. This variety turns 70 years old.

Description of early purple grapes

It takes 4,5 months from blooming to harvest. If the berries are planned to be used for wine production, then the bunches are removed around the end of September so that they can accumulate a sufficient amount of sugar. For fresh consumption, the crop can be harvested at the beginning of autumn. The grapes are good both as a dessert and for making preserves.

Early Violet grapes have good yields

External characteristics:

  • large green leaves, covered with sparse fluff from below;
  • young light green shoots;
  • a powerful old vine of brown color;
  • ripe shoots of brownish color;
  • bisexual flowers;
  • a bunch in the form of a cone, measuring 15 by 12 cm;
  • round berries of deep purple color with a grayish bloom and strong skin;
  • juicy pulp with an unusual taste and bright aroma of nutmeg.

The standard weight of a bunch is 100-150 g, one berry is 2,5 g. The variety is good because it gives a bountiful harvest even in non-irrigated areas.

Features of the care of the early purple grape variety

Plants of this variety have many advantages:

  • early ripening of the crop;
  • resistance to drought and many fungal diseases;
  • high frost resistance;
  • unpretentiousness to the composition of the soil;
  • rich gamut of flavors;
  • pronounced taste of nutmeg.

This grape should not be grown in the shade and near trees, as it will stretch out trying to reach out to the sun’s rays. The variety bears fruit best near the southern walls of the house, since there are no sharp gusts of wind, the air warms up faster.

Make sure that the jets of rainwater flowing from the roof of the house do not fall on the vine and on the ground near the roots. This can provoke illness, as these grapes do not like abundant watering.

It is undemanding to the composition of the soil, it can grow even on saline soils and heavy clay soil

To ensure a stable and bountiful harvest, stepchildren should be removed regularly. No more than 6 eyes should be left on the bush. The grapes are vigorous, so they need a garter. In regions with severe winters, it is better to insulate the bushes with spruce branches or coniferous sawdust to a height of 35 cm.

This undemanding variety can be recommended for growing to novice winegrowers.
