“I was preparing for natural childbirth. But, unfortunately, I was diagnosed with pronounced symphysitis, and the doctor said that they would be “caesarean”. But soon I found information about the “glamorous” Caesarean, talked to the doctor. Honestly, I had to persuade the doctor. I was carefully instructed, I knew that if I got scared in the process, I could refuse. But when the doctors lowered the curtain and invited me to take my son, it was just cosmic! I have the absolute feeling that I still gave birth to him myself! I helped him to get out, to be born, I put him on my chest myself. I got a unique experience … No, not only me, but also my son! “
“Glamorous” cesarean section – this is the kind of standard artificial delivery operation appeared in Moscow maternity hospitals. So far, however, such an option is only available in maternity hospital No. 25. Tatyana Butskaya, a doctor and medical blogger, told Woman’s Day in detail about the features of the operation – she was lucky not only to talk to a doctor performing a “glamorous” cesarean, but also to become a direct participant in the process.
This is an absolutely standard caesarean section, but only with the active participation of the woman herself. Doctors make an incision, remove the head, arms and shoulders of the child through it, and then the mother herself, with her own hands, helps the child to be born. Don’t confuse a “glamorous” cesarean with a natural one. In the second case, the woman does not take an active part in childbirth – the doctors themselves slowly take the child out, imitating the passage through the birth canal and leaving the baby time for adaptation.
“Where this name came from is not clear,” says the obstetrician-gynecologist of the Pirogov City Clinical Hospital No. 1, Branch Maternity Hospital No. 25, DZM Elizaveta Agarkova. – But in America, “glamorous” Caesarean has long been practiced. It seems to us that active or contact caesarean is better suited, but still the “glamorous” stuck.
Caesarean is sometimes called glamorous, which some show business stars do at will, but this is not our option.
“Glamorous Caesarean is not a standalone option or service in the hospital that you can buy,” says Elizaveta Agarkova. – Such a cesarean is possible only if there are indications for surgery. Since the caesarean is still ahead, some women persistently ask to be allowed to actively participate in the process. If there are no contraindications, we allow it. And of course it’s free! “
Does the woman see the doctors making the incision?
Absolutely not! The operation begins in a standard way – a special curtain is hung up, which does not allow the woman to see the manipulations of the doctors. And only when the incision has already been made, and the child’s head and shoulders are brought out, the curtain is raised. Then the woman herself puts the baby on her breast. Doctors wait for the umbilical cord to pulsate, then lower the curtain again and apply the stitches as usual. That is, a mother meets a child when both of them are one more whole!
Is this procedure safe for a woman and a child?
Yes! Mom is carefully prepared and instructed, spinal anesthesia is given, and long gloves are put on her elbow-length. Still, they do not take a child with their bare hands.
“We have never encountered any infectious or traumatic complications during a“ glamorous ”Caesarean,” says Elizaveta Agarkova.
So do not worry, this type of intervention is absolutely safe for the health of both.
No. The active participation of a woman in the process of a cesarean section is impossible with an emergency operation, since with this option it is necessary to save the fetus or the mother, or both. At the time of the operation, the child must be in a cephalic presentation. And one more thing: the pregnancy should proceed without complications. That is, no green waters, hypoxia, etc. And once again we remind you: “glamorous” Caesarean is possible only in the case of a planned operation. In the case of emergency intervention, there is no longer a choice.
