Ginger – how to choose, store and cook it

Autumn is the time to stock up on ginger root. In cooking, both fresh root vegetables and dried and crushed into powder are used, in which, alas, less healing properties are preserved.

How to choose and store ginger

To find a good ginger root, examine it. The rhizome should be smooth, gray-beige, without excess growths and spots.

If the ginger is wrinkled, it is old; if it has eyes (like in a potato), then most likely it is sinewy and tough.

Remember that the most beneficial substances are located under the skin of the root, so use a special knife to clean it, which will peel off the top layer as thinly as possible. It is called the “ginger peeling knife”, the length of its blade is only 4 centimeters.

Many people automatically put ginger in the vegetable section of the refrigerator. you shouldn’t do this. Store fresh ginger out of the refrigerator or it will lose its flavor. Better – in a dark, not too humid place.

What to cook with ginger?
