Unfortunately, semen analysis is not very popular among men in Poland. Going to a specialist dealing with this type of matter still paralyzes most men. Completely unnecessary – semen analysis is non-invasive, does not hurt, and doctors argue that it is worth getting tested at least once in your life. The only difficulty here is overcoming shame. For those more shy, home fertility tests are also available, which can be found in every pharmacy!

On average, 87% of men in Poland do not test their semen. This is related to the prevailing stereotype that this type of test is addressed only to those who have problems with conceiving a child. Statistics reveal that as many as 95% of men go to the doctor only when they experience serious health problems. That is why they so often avoid preventive examinations, including semen quality tests.

Why and for whom? Medical examination

This type of testing is for everyone, regardless of fertility problems. According to specialists, semen analysis allows not only to detect infertility, but also gives the opportunity to check the condition of the whole body. A professional examination performed at the doctor’s office allows you to determine the viability and motility of sperm, their quantity, structure, or even look into the DNA to be able to exclude or confirm the risk of genetic diseases.

It is also a great protection against the effects of dangerous diseases. Semen analysis is a way to quickly detect inflammation of the seminal vesicles and prostate glands, as well as bacteria that are sexually transmitted.

The test takes place in the most comfortable and discreet conditions possible – sperm donation takes place in a closed, isolated room. It is just as basic a test that allows you to determine the state of the body, such as a urine or blood test.

Home fertility test

One option is to take a fertility test at home. Until recently, this type of option was available only for women, but now in pharmacies you can find tests for men. Their operation is very simple. The set includes:

  • Tester,
  • Dropper,
  • testing solution,
  • Sperm container.

It is not as detailed as the one performed at the doctor’s, but it allows you to determine the number of sperm in the semen. The more of them, the more intense the color of the coloring solution. Sperm that can be described as rich in sperm content is the one in which we can find a minimum of 20 million sperm cells per 1 ml. Each set contains the necessary standards with which the obtained test result is compared. For the result to be reliable, it must be performed no earlier than three days after the last ejaculation, and if it indicates a reduced sperm count, it is good to repeat the test after about 10 weeks. If you find that the result is similar or the same, be sure to see your doctor.
