Extracurricular reading in grade 3: bibliography, books, stories

Extracurricular reading in grade 3 for the summer is not always a mandatory procedure at school. Some schools issue such a list for the summer and attach assignments to it, while in others there is no such concept at all. In many cases, even if extracurricular reading is practiced at school, in practice a child in Russia does nothing in the summer, although this is wrong.

Many parents believe that reading to a child in the summer is not necessary, and sometimes even harmful. In their opinion, the child should rest during the summer. But a few minutes of daily reading will only be beneficial.

Extracurricular reading in grade 3 is especially useful, because at this age the child grasps information on the fly.

Summer reading brings obvious benefits, and in the third grade they also contribute to the development of intelligence and some skills:

  • By reading in the summer, the child will learn better throughout the year. If for three months a child reads for several minutes every day, then he will learn to better absorb information.
  • Development of imagination. Thanks to books, the child imagines the situation himself, thinks over the characters and presents the plot. As a consequence, the imagination develops. Creativity also develops.
  • Development of horizons. A student who devotes a few minutes to reading in the summer becomes more erudite and developed. This contributes to the formation of their own point of view and correct life guidelines.
  • Memory development. After reading the works, it is worth asking your son or daughter what they were about and what they understood from this. Also, if in the summer you learn at least a few poems, then the information will be assimilated from them faster.

A small amount of time that a child spends with a book in his hands will make him more developed and help him learn more successfully.

Every year, some requirements do not change, while others change.

  • The reading speed should increase. If in the second grade a student must read 65 words per minute, then in the third grade their number should be 85.
  • There should be no errors in the staging of the stress.
  • The diction must be clear, the words must be pronounced clearly, the endings must not be swallowed.

Try to check your child’s reading speed at home, if it is not normal, pay more attention to reading.

Each school has a different list, but there are certain books that are required reading:

  • Kuprin’s White Poodle;
  • “White Bim, Black Ear” by Troepolsky;
  • “Mumu” by Turgenev;
  • Chekhov’s Horse Family and Kashtanka;
  • Alice in Wonderland by L. Carroll;
  • “Uncle Fyodor, Cat and Dog” by Uspensky;
  • Gaidar’s Timur and His Team;
  • Twain’s The Adventures of Tom Sawyer;
  • The Magician’s Hat by T. Jansson;

If the child wants to read more, then this should be encouraged. He can read a few stories or learn poetry by heart, which will contribute to his development.

Of course, you can let your child rest in the summer. But reading does not take long and is very beneficial. Thanks to this, the child will study more successfully, develop his horizons, and improve his memory. Children who read in summer do better in various subjects than their peers during the school year.
