PAJE, what is it?

La young child care service (Paje) is financial assistance for parents upon the arrival of one or more babies in the family. As parents, you are entitled to it until your child is 3 years old (more precisely, when he enters kindergarten).

It brings together the birth bonuset adoption, thebasic allowance, the pshared restation of the child’s education (Prepare), and Complement of free choice of guard mode (CMG). These aids are distributed under income conditions and vary selon the composition of the foyer (number of children, single mother).

Who is entitled to PAJE?

To benefit from the basic allowance, your child must be under three years old.

How to benefit from the PAJE?

To receive the birth bonus and the basic allowance, all you have to do is declare your pregnancy to your CAF and your primary health insurance fund in the first 14 weeks. No further action is necessary. In the event of adoption, notify your CAF in the same way.. You will be able to benefit from the adoption premium and the basic allowance. In both cases, the child must be under 20 years old. Namely, after birth, you must pass the three compulsory medical examinations to your child (at 8th day, 9th month and 24th month). If you do not respect the deadlines indicated, you risk losing some of your rights.

What is the amount of the PAJE?

For a child born from April 1, 2018, if you are eligible, you will receive the sum of 944,50€ or as many times this amount as children born (twins, triplets or more). As for the adoption premium, it is 1888,98€ for a child who arrived in the home after April 1, 2018.

For children born before April 1, 2018:

The basic allowance is awarded per family. In the event of multiple births, it will be paid as many basic allowances as children born from the same childbirth or adopted simultaneously.

The amount of the full-rate basic allowance is 184,62€ per month. At partial rate, the amount of the allowance is 92,31 € per month.

This allowance is paid until the month preceding the child’s third birthday or, in the case of adoption, for a minimum of 12 months up to the limit of the child’s 20th birthday.

Conditions: 2017 income must not exceed certain ceilings for the payment of the basic allowance, find out about the CAF website.

For the first month, the amount of the basic allowance varies according to the day of your baby’s birth. Example: if your child was born on March 20, ie 12 days before the end of the month, the payment is equal to 12/31 of the amount of the basic monthly allowance. If you give birth to twins, triplets or more, the basic allowances are cumulative according to the number of babies.

In case of adoption, the basic allowance is paid for three years within the limit of the child’s 20 years.

For children born after April 1, 2018:

The amount of the full-rate basic allowance is 171,22€ per month. At partial rate, the amount of the allowance is 85,61€ per month.

The basic allowance is paid until the month preceding child’s third birthday or, in case of adoption, for a minimum of 12 months within the limit of the child’s 20th birthday.

As with the birth premium or the adoption premium, your income must not exceed certain ceilings for the payment of the basic allowance at full or partial rate.

When to apply for PAJE

The allowance is due from first day of the month following birth of the child. Example: if he was born on December 25, the aid is paid on February 1 for the month of January. In the case of multiple births (twins, triplets, etc.), you can combine several basic allowances.

What aid from CAF after 3 years?

Depending on your situation, the family allowance fund will pay you certain aid. Other CAF allowances decrease when your child returns to kindergarten. Indeed, the fund considers that a type of childcare all day is unnecessary. Good to know: since the start of the 2019 school year, instruction is compulsory from 3 years olds.

Back-to-school allowance (ARS)

This help is reserved parents of children who will be 6 years old, therefore who go back to elementary school. It is not intended for pupils attending kindergarten. The ARS is increased for children from 11 to 14 years old and for 16 to 18 years old. Good to know: if you are a beneficiary, you will not have to apply for it, it is paid automatically. In 2019 the amount was 368,84 euros (6 to 10 years old), 389,19 euros (11-14 years old), 402,67 euros (15-18 years old).

Family supplement This is monthly financial assistance for families whose last born is over 3 years old. It is paid by CAF or by MSA (Mutualité sociale agricole). To benefit from it, you must not exceed a certain income limit. Its initial amount is 171,22 euros. It can be increased and reach 256,85 euros according to household resources.

The free choice of child care supplement (CMG) You can benefit from the free choice of child care supplement if you have your baby looked after (home care, nursery assistant, crèche, etc.).

This aid is made up of CAF aid for the payment of social charges and Pajemploi aid for home care. The amount of the allowance paid by Pajemploi varies according to your financial resources. 177 468 to euros (if your last born is less than 3 years old) and 88 234 to euros (if he is between 3 and 6 years old).

Remember: in addition to this allowance, if you employ home childcare, regardless of your income, you are entitled to a “home childcare” tax credit. It covers 50% of home care expenses, with a 50% ceiling of € 13 to € 500 (€ 15000 the first year of employment).

Good to know: in 2020, childcare assistance will no longer be paid until the child is three years old, but will be extended until entering kindergarten.
