PSYchology

Emotional tone is the habitual internal state of a person, which determines his basic mood in life. Emotions are practically fleeting: joy replaces calmness, surprise ends in laughter, and the changing emotional waves do not affect our mood as a whole. A person’s mood determines his emotional tone.

So, for example, in music, there are different keys — major and minor. In each key, you can play a variety of notes, but the overall mood of the work will depend on the key: if it is major, it will be cheerful and joyful music, and if the key is minor, then no matter what the musician plays, you will hear a poignantly sad or disturbing melody. If a person has a habitual high emotional tone — his frequent emotions are joy, interest, contentment with himself and life — all that we used to understand by the words «good mood». The habit of low emotional tone entails a less pleasant list — fear, anger, boredom, longing. There are high-tone people, there are low-tone ones. See Emotional Tone Scale

Emotional tone and age

Emotional tones change with age. Usually, unfortunately, these changes consist in a decline from high tones to low ones. It is easy to make a child happy and joyful: he easily rejoices at the simplest trifles: a rainbow in the sky, a beautiful leaf found, rain. Time passes, and the habit of a good mood is replaced by calmness: the energy is no longer the same, it is not appropriate for an adult to rejoice at every little thing. The end of this path is easy to see: elderly and old people tend to fill clinics and talk about the horrors of life … This is the most typical development. But another is possible!

How to maintain a consistently high emotional tone

  • Share your good mood with others

A smile is everything. Train yourself to smile when you talk to someone and look for opportunities to get a smile back. Compliments. Make small, unexpected and pleasant gifts!

  • Keep track of the keywords in your speech

«Problem! Horror! Nightmare! I always have to … I have to again … And these bastards! — those people who use such a dictionary are rarely in a good mood. Use positive language as your keywords more often: “Good morning! Interesting! Well… How nice to hear! Thank you!»

The most interesting thing is that both words can equally rightly accompany the same situation…

  • Control your inner text

When we speak, in addition to the external, there is also an internal text: a text that we pronounce to ourselves. And what do you say to yourself? Let life-affirming phrases also support you inside: replace the word “difficult” with the word “interesting”, “failure” with the word “creative situation”, indignant tirades with “curious” in the internal lexicon. Do this experiment — the results will please you!

  • Live with pleasure

Beautiful clouds over the city, illuminated by the setting sun… Fresh, cold and invigorating air of the early morning. A hot cup of fragrant tea… Train yourself to see the best in life.

Two people were looking out the same window.

One saw rain and mud

Another — foliage of green ligature,

Spring and blue skies!

Two looked at one window.

Restore your childish ability to enjoy even the smallest things!
