ECG of the heart
In the 19th century, it was discovered that the heart produces electricity during operation; the first ECGs were recorded by Gabriel Lippmann using a mercury electrometer. The research was continued by Ville Einthoven, who invented the string galvanometer and recorded a true ECG.
Electrocardiogram
ECG – a method of recording and further research of electric fields that are formed during the work of the heart.
The method is very widespread in cardiology due to its value and relative cheapness.
ECG interpretation
The results of an ECG are electrocardiograms – graphical representations of the work of the heart.
After taking an ECG, an experienced cardiologist will interpret the results and give recommendations.
What can an ECG show?
- frequency and regularity of heart contractions.
- myocardial infarction, myocardial ischemia.
- intracardiac conduction disorders.
- disorders of electrolyte metabolism (potassium, calcium, magnesium).
- physical condition of the heart.
- non-cardiac diseases – pulmonary embolism.
How is an ECG performed?
A conductive gel is applied to the skin and electrodes are applied. The recorded electrical impulses of the heart are displayed on a monitor or on paper in graphic form – an electrocardiogram.
In our medical center “Prima Medica” (Kaluzhskaya metro station) you can do an ECG for an adult. You can find out the cost of the service here.
