Immediately after the appearance of the blood type diet, it caused a real stir among those wishing to lose weight. As time goes on, this way of eating remains one of the most popular in the world.

The diet was developed in the 90s of the last century by the American physician Peter d’Adamo. Dr. d’Adamo was engaged in naturopathy – the science of the vital forces of the body and the possibilities of its self-healing. The doctor adhered to the widespread point of view that all diseases are genetically predetermined and, in particular, depend on the blood group. D’Adamo connected his research with the theory of evolution: according to his hypothesis, blood groups did not appear immediately, but in order of priority. The living conditions under which new groups were formed also determined the genetic characteristics of people. Thus, each blood type requires its own lifestyle, diet, and exercise.

In it, he developed a food system according to blood groups, dividing all products into useful, harmful and neutral. The book has sold millions of copies throughout the country. This diet has not been scientifically proven, but has received many positive reviews from users. According to the doctor himself, his nutritional principles not only relieve excess weight, but also promote healthy digestion, improve metabolism and give rise to excellent well-being.

Modern clinics offer clients a hemocode diet – an improved version of d’Adamo’s nutrition. Such a selection of a diet costs from $ 300 and is calculated individually.

Diet for the first blood group

According to the doctor’s theory, this group arose in ancient times, when the main food of our ancestors was meat. D’Adamo calls people with the first blood group “hunters”. In order to survive, “hunters” had to have endurance, strength, good metabolism and quick reactions. For all this, they needed an abundance of protein foods. The diet for the first blood group is selected on the basis of meat and fish products, as well as olive oil and nuts. Fatty meat, legumes, cabbage, caviar, fatty dairy products, corn and spirits are contraindicated for “hunters”. And the most useful are seafood, broccoli, spinach.

Diet for the second blood group

The “hunters” gradually settled in new places, learned to cultivate and grow plants. In such conditions, the second blood group arose, and its carriers were called “farmers”. The organism of “farmers” is less adapted to digest meat and is tuned to plant food. Dr. d’Adamo even recommends that these people become vegetarians.

Undesirable foods for those with the second blood group:

  • red and fatty meat
  • most seafood
  • fat milk and vegetable oil
  • smoked meats
  • citrus

The diet should be based on fish, poultry, nuts, fruits and berries.

Diet for the third blood group

The third group stood out when people domesticated livestock and were able to roam from place to place, always having food supplies at hand. The “nomads” have developed a flexible digestive and immune system, endurance, and a strong psyche. By its nature, the third group is omnivorous, even fatty dairy products are not harmful to it. However, it is worthwhile to carefully consume fatty meats, lentils and legumes, wheat, peanuts and buckwheat.

Diet for the fourth blood group

The fourth group is the rarest on the planet. Only 8% of the world’s inhabitants have it. It was formed relatively recently by the merger of the second and third groups, therefore, the owners of the fourth blood group are called “new people”. Their digestive tract is adapted to the digestion of any food, but it is quite vulnerable. Therefore, “new people” should exclude from the diet foods that are too heavy for the stomach – fatty meat and seafood, vegetable oil, dairy products with a high fat content, citrus fruits, hot peppers, pickles. Low-fat protein foods, herbs, vegetables, nuts, berries are useful.

Research results and criticism

Further research by scientists questioned d’Adamo’s theory. It turned out that there are much more blood groups and subgroups, so this approach to nutrition is too simplistic. However, the diet has an undeniable plus: only healthy foods are offered as a diet. Lean meat, fish, an abundance of vegetables are in themselves good for the body and stabilize its metabolism. Plus, such a balanced meal plan isn’t as harmful to your health as the popular mono diets. However, you should not eat foods that you are allergic to, or skip meat if you have a rather weak immune system. And for a more stable result, you need to be examined by an allergist, endocrinologist and gastroenterologist who can adapt the diet to your body.

With high blood cholesterol, special attention should be paid to the choice of diet.
