Desire to have a child: different motivations for the desire to be a mother
Almost all human beings desire a child at one time or another. This desire is a conscious process but which is infiltrated by unconscious desires.
Where does the desire to have a child come from?
The desire for a child is already the desire to found a family. It is also the desire to bring love to a child and to receive it from him. The desire for a child also merges with the desire for life, and to extend it beyond one’s own existence by transmitting the values received in one’s family. But the desire for a child also contains unconscious motivations.
The child of love
The desire for a child can be the fruit of the love of a couple, of the erotic and amorous desire and the fruit of the desire for transmission of the two protagonists. The desire for a child is the realization of this love, its extension by giving it an immortal dimension. The child is then the desire to build a common project.
The “repair” child
The desire for a child can be motivated by a desire for an imaginary child, that of unconscious fantasies, the child who can repair everything, fill everything and accomplish everything: mourning, loneliness, unhappy childhood, feeling of loss, unfulfilled dreams … But this desire burdens the child with a heavy role. This one is not there to fill the gaps, to take revenge on life …
The “success” child
The desire for a child can finally be motivated by a desire for a successful child. You have made a success of your professional life, your relationship, a child is missing for the success of your life to be complete!
Beware of possible disappointment: already, a child is not perfect and then having an asset upsets a life, your displayed success could well falter a little. But, even a little less perfect, it can be even better!
Enlarge the family
After a first child, often comes the desire for a next one, then another. The desire for motherhood is never really fulfilled as long as the woman is fertile. Parents may want to give their first child a baby brother or sister, have a daughter when they have a firstborn son, or vice versa. Another child is also the continuation of a common project, the desire to balance the family.
