The candy apple tree belongs to the summer varieties. It was bred as a result of crossing “Korobovka” and “Papirovka”. The fruits have an unsurpassed taste.

The trees are undersized, 4−5 m in height. In the first years they grow very quickly, but when they reach 2 m, the growth rates decrease. The crown is spreading and powerful, it needs shaping. With proper care, the tree takes on a rounded shape. Every year you need to cut out diseased and damaged branches, as well as shoots that thicken the crown.

Apple tree “Candy” bears fruit for 3-4 years after planting

The tree should be well blown from all sides. The growth of the apple tree and the type of crown depend on the rootstock. There are few characteristic features of the tree:

  • densely leafy branches;
  • leaves are large, dark green.

Trees have good regenerative abilities. Even after the branches freeze in winter, the apple tree bears fruit and gives growth.

Description of the apple variety “Candy”

Early variety. The fruits ripen in August, sometimes even at the end of July. Among all summer varieties, it is the most delicious, but the yield is average. From a tree at the age of 5 years, you can collect up to 50 kg of apples, at 10 years of age, fruiting increases to 100 kg.

“Candy” got its name for the sweet taste of apples with honey notes. There is no sourness. Fruits are medium in size, weighing 80-120 g. Sometimes apples can weigh up to 150 g. They are round and regular in shape. The color of the fruits is yellow, if they grew from the sunny side, that is, a blush. The pulp is white, tender and juicy. The fruit has a pleasant aroma. They are best eaten fresh. The pulp has a high content of ascorbic acid and iron.

Grade Advantages:

  • stable yield, the amount of the harvested crop depends little on weather conditions;
  • good preservation of fruits, compared to summer varieties at low temperatures, they can be stored for up to 2 months;
  • high score for the taste of apples – 4 points out of 5;
  • winter hardiness, apple trees of this variety can be grown in the middle lane and in the Urals;
  • good preservation of fruits on the tree, after ripening they do not fall off.

The disadvantages of the variety include low resistance to scab. “Candy” is not suitable for commercial cultivation. Fruit transportability is poor.

When growing the Candy apple tree, keep in mind that the tree responds positively to pruning. This procedure stimulates fruiting and increases the size of the fruit. When pruning young apple trees, do not overdo it.
