Damage to the vestibular apparatus

When different parts of the vestibular apparatus are affected, certain symptoms appear, the analysis of which can determine the source of the disease – from the receptors of the semicircular canals of the inner ear to the cerebral cortex.

Symptoms are usually caused by swelling in the posterior fossa of the skull with damage to the vestibulocochlear nerve and the development of intracranial hypertension.

The pathology that causes the development of symptoms can be tumor, inflammatory, or vascular.

Signs of vestibular dysfunction

Main manifestations of violations:

  • feeling of dizziness, il
  • decrease in body temperature,
  • twitching of the eyeball – nystagmus, change in the reaction of the pupils to light,
  • changes in breathing rhythm, pulse,
  • nausea, vomiting,
  • increased sweating,
  • imbalance,
  • pressure fluctuations,
  • paleness or redness of the face and neck.

Symptoms of disorders can occur in attacks, suddenly, with regular intervals between them.

The diagnosis of a disease that causes disorders of the vestibular apparatus requires a thorough examination of the patient using modern methods: audiometry, ultrasound of the spinal arteries, MRI of the brain.
