General description of the disease

A concussion of the brain is damage to its tissues with possible disruption of its functioning, caused by various head injuries. In fact, it is a mild form of traumatic brain injury.

Causes of a concussion:

  • Focal – blows to the head, bruises, unsuccessful falls;
  • Diffuse – sudden movements, such as acceleration or deceleration when the vehicle is suddenly braking or falling on the buttocks.

Concussion symptoms

It is not always possible to immediately recognize a concussion, as symptoms may appear several days or even weeks after the injury. However, the following can indicate a concussion:

  1. 1 Incoherence of speech;
  2. 2 Nausea accompanied by vomiting;
  3. 3 Dizziness and headache;
  4. 4 Loss of coordination, feeling clumsy, confusion;
  5. 5 Doubling in the eyes, while the pupils can be of different sizes;
  6. 6 Increased sensitivity to light and sound, ringing in the ears;
  7. 7 Lethargy, loss of concentration, change in behavior;
  8. 8 Memory loss;
  9. 9 Pressure surges;
  10. 10 Pain with eye movement;
  11. 11 Sleep disturbances.

Types of concussion:

  • Concussion of the brain of the 1st degree (mild) – there are short-term symptoms that last no more than 15 minutes;
  • Concussion of the 2nd degree (moderate) – there are prolonged symptoms without loss of consciousness;
  • Concussion of the 3rd degree (severe) – loss of consciousness is noted.

If you suspect a concussion, you should immediately consult a doctor who can determine the severity of the damage and prescribe the necessary treatment.

Healthy foods for concussion

In case of a concussion, the doctor prescribes bed rest and a diet consisting of easily digestible food. In this case, it is best to eat fresh food, boiled or steamed. Also, do not overeat, so as not to further burden the body.

  • In case of concussions, it is useful to use B vitamins, as they normalize the functioning of the nervous system. They are found in liver, pork, nuts, asparagus, potatoes, oysters, egg yolk, buckwheat, legumes (beans, peas), brewer’s yeast, whole grain bread, milk and fish.
  • For the full assimilation of B vitamins, the body must have iron. Its sources are buckwheat, oatmeal, barley, wheat, legumes, spinach, liver, dogwood, poultry meat (pigeons, chicken).
  • In addition, poultry meat also contains lecithin, which normalizes the functioning of the brain. It is also found in eggs, liver and soy.
  • During this period, it is useful to use vegetable and cereal soups with fish or meat broth, borscht, pickle or beetroot soup, as they improve digestion.
  • To maximize the enrichment of the body with vitamins and useful microelements, it is necessary to consume vegetables, fruits and herbs.
  • With a concussion, the diet depends entirely on the medication taken. For example, if a patient is prescribed diuretics, increase the amount of potassium-rich foods consumed. It can be dried apricots, dairy products, baked potatoes, different types of nuts, legumes, raisins, prunes, seaweed.
  • It is useful to use milk and dairy, as well as fermented milk products also because they contain calcium, which increases immunity and has a positive effect on metabolic processes in the body.
  • It is very important to eat fish regularly as it contains omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids.
  • Eating foods with vitamin C helps the body fight stress and improves its overall health. Sources of this vitamin are rose hips, black currants, bell peppers, citrus fruits, honeysuckle, cabbage, viburnum, mountain ash, spinach.
  • Also, to normalize the brain and protect it from stress, magnesium is needed, which is found in buckwheat, barley, oatmeal, millet, various types of nuts, seaweed, and legumes.
  • You can add honey and dried fruits to your diet, as they contain glucose, which is necessary for the functioning of all cells in the body, including brain cells.
  • To enrich the body with fats, it is better to use nuts and vegetable oil, such as olive oil.

Folk remedies for the treatment of concussion

It is possible to start treatment with traditional medicine only after consulting a neurologist in order to exclude possible complications.

  1. 1 With shaking, you can take a soothing infusion of hop cones, buckthorn bark, lemon balm, willow-herb, valerian root, St. John’s wort and birch leaves, taken in equal proportions. For its preparation 3 tbsp. l. collection is poured into 1 liter of boiling water and brewed in a thermos. After 2 hours, the infusion will be ready. The course of treatment is 2 weeks. You need to take it 4 p. 0.5 cups per day. In addition to its calming effect, this infusion also has a regenerating property.
  2. 2 In case of concussion, an infusion of myrtle and elecampane is taken. For its preparation, the leaves of these herbs are well crushed, and then 1 tbsp. l. the resulting collection is poured into 2 tbsp. boiling water and insist for 0.5 hour. The course of treatment is 2 months. At the same time, it is better to drink this infusion after 7 days after brain damage, 200 ml 2 times a day.
  3. 3 An excellent source of concussion brain nutrition is a mixture of crushed walnuts and honey. It must be taken daily for six months for 1 tbsp. l. (for children from 3 years old – 1 tsp for 2 months).
  4. 4 It is also possible to speed up the brain repair process with natural vitamins. To do this, prepare a salad of fresh spinach (200 g), fresh onions (50 g) and 2 chicken egg yolks, which is seasoned with 2 tablespoons. sunflower oil.
  5. 5 If insomnia and headache appear after a concussion, you can use an infusion of cinnamon and mint. For its preparation 1 tsp. ground cinnamon is mixed with 1 tbsp. finely chopped mint. The resulting composition is poured into 1 liter of boiling water and insisted for 0.5 hour in a thermos. You need to drink it 4-6 times a day, 100 ml, but depending on the general well-being, the dose can be reduced. It is especially effective in the first days after injury.
  6. 6 To reduce the intensity of the symptoms of concussion, an infusion of lemon balm, plantain, deaf nettle, oregano, mullein, clover flowers, rose hips, wild rosemary branches and black currant shoots, mixed in equal quantities, is used. 2 tbsp. l. collection you need to brew 1 liter. boiling water and put in a water bath for 10 minutes, cover with a lid. When the broth cools down, strain it. Take 3 tbsp. 3 times a day. Depending on the general state of health, you can increase the portion of the broth by 1.5-2 times.
  7. 7 Also, when shaking, take an infusion of St. John’s wort three times a day, 1/3 cup (2 tsp herbs, pour 1 cup water and boil over low heat).

Hazardous and harmful products when shaken

  • Doctors advise to exclude alcohol intake for at least a year after a concussion, as it puts additional stress on the blood vessels.
  • During this period, it is better to exclude salty and spicy foods so as not to disturb the water-salt balance in the body. In addition, spices increase appetite, which can lead to overeating and obesity.
  • Excessively fatty, smoked, fried foods can also provoke the appearance of excess weight.
  • Also at this time, it is better to refuse baking with margarine, chocolate and confectionery in large quantities. However, it is important to remember that chocolate will have a positive effect if consumed in moderation, as it contains glucose.
  • Do not overuse strong tea and coffee, as they contain caffeine. Because of its stimulating effect on the nervous system, it can aggravate headaches and increase blood pressure.
